...In the UK. Kinda curious to see if the US market gets a similar announcement in the weeks to come. That would be one hell of a deal if they do follow suit.

PistonHeads Headlines - Subaru WRX STI: £26,995 (http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26207)

http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/2011-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-STI-N%C3%BCrburgring-prototype.jpg

The Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 have generated plenty of discussion over the magic ratio of performance-per-pound. But Subaru's Impreza is still something of a driving hero and word on the grapevine is that it too is about to enter the affordable hoonage bracket.

Crossroads Subaru tells us Subaru UK has had an extreme attack of generosity and a brand new four or five-door WRX STi can be had for £26,995 - which makes it £2,000 more than a base-trim BRZ, or £1,000 less than a 'Lux' trim auto BRZ. Up until now the 'it's not called an Impreza anymore' STi has retailed at £32,995.

The WRX STi may be a very different car conceptually from the naturally aspirated, rear-wheel drive BRZ, and perhaps the hot Impreza has passed its zenith as a cultural icon, but £26,995 really does sound like something of a bargain for a car that's always been a very special driving experience.

Alternatively, in the PH Classifieds three to four-year-old Imprezas are hovering around the £14,000 to £16,000 mark whilst nearly-new examples aren't far off the price of a new BRZ...

Every time I see one of those it's being driven by some pseudo-toughguy Asian punk. I'll pass.

Furthermore, they're ugly as hell.

doesn't make sense- you never want to compete against your own product.

maybe there is a ton of profit in the 4 door impreza and they would rather move those cars instead.

I hope it happens. I'm starting to look seriously, since the mazdaspeed has almost 100K on it.

I had a feeling the BRZ would cannibalize sales from the STI. The Toyobaru is rapidly gaining cult status. :yesnod:

I agree.. There is also something to be said about flinging a small AWD turbo car around. I miss it actually. Big V8's are fun too but you rarley get to use all that power and high top end. I've been looking at them more and more latley. It would honestly be this or a coyote GT for me in the future more than likley.

We knew that was gonna happen though. My issue with the car is two fold. 140whp and a worthless back seat. Even with young kids its a no go. That immediatley is a deal killer for me. The Sti on the other hand....

This is true, the only way I would drive one is if they made it without the hideous wing and front bumper. Anime belongs in weird Japanese porn, not cars.

Is the engine in the BRZ/FRS the same as the Subaru without the Turbo? I am thinking it would be a good car for my kid for school, and SCCA stuff.

I'd love to have an STi but with the miles and miles of wide, well manicured dirt logging roads just north of here, I'd be too tempted to go play rallye car and it would get ****ed up bad

Subaru indulged us at least once before with the 2007 WRX STi Limited. I considered it...
