I went out to Rough & Tumble on friday to help my former neighbor Roger in the engine building during the 64th Annual Thresherman's Reunion
Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association (http://www.roughandtumble.org/index.asp)

There was a steady stream of folks all day long. :seasix: I answered a lot of questions and had to get Roger a few times when folks asked about something I didn't know or wasn't sure of ( I wasn't going to make up an answer )

Here's a few pics that I got on friday

4 hp Otto made in 1890. This was originally designed to run on "city gas" ( coal was heated up and then captured for lighting, street lights and engines in some towns/cities). Since it's very impractical to produce that gas now, one of the guys there designed a hydrogen gas manifold system to run this and few other early engines.

This is a slide valve style engine. As the governor slows down, it releases a charge of hydrogen gas into the combustion chamber. Then the flame is captured in the slide valve where it moves over to the combustion chamber where it ignites the fuel charge.

We also started the 5 hp New Era. Although this one was originally designed to run on city gas, since it has an ignitor ignition system, it is now run on propane.
