We have both our Dogs chipped,it is really helpful if you happen to lose one,our latest pup got chipped back last October for $20, which is pretty cheap,we just got a bill for $17.95 for renewal membership, they never explained any yearly renewal when we had it put in and my other dog has no such thing, what are they going to do remove it if we don't pay, what a crock of chit. The chip is there in case she ever gets lost and a Vet or Police dept can scan for info.:leaving:

Strange. Our cat are chipped, but it was a one time fee when we got them from the rescue.

The renewal is to keep your pet in the various databases, to keep those up-to-date. All our cats have chips.

Got my dogs ecu flashed for $25 back in 06 at one of those spca events.
It was a one time deal.

We are currently sponsoring two animals at the local Humane Society, a cat and a dog. That means they won't kill the poor things until they get adopted, at least supposedly (they better not.) Irresponsible pet owners who just take their pet to the HS when it gets a little inconvenient for them just piss me off.

Mine had too much. Blew out both Acl's. Tune was way to aggressive. Spent $3k on solid rebuilds though.

Our pets are chipped, but I don't recall anything about a yearly renewal. IIRC, it was a one time fee. It was substantially more than $20, though. More like $80.
The microchip implant in your pet is useless if you don't bother to register your contact information with an agency. Each microchip carries a unique identification number, and that identification number matches your name and contact information in a database.
When you register, you provide this identification number, as well as your contact information or your veterinarian's contact information. When a shelter finds your pet, they use scanners to read the number and contact an agency that manages the database. The agency then contacts you with the good news that your lost pet has been found. It's important you keep your contact information up-to-date in the database. Whenever you move or get a new phone number or e-mail address, you should to notify the agency of the change.

I wonder if you don't pay if they will withhold your contact info.

My dogs are rescues, and are chipped... but through two different companies. One was a one time fee.. done. The other, which sounds like the one you have.... charges a renewal fee for their top tier service, which includes sending out notices if you pet is missing, etc. I don't pay the fee but did confirm the info stays in the database so if your pet is lost and scanned, the info is there.
One of my pups is chipped and there is no annual fee. Just one time to get him in the system.
Tell the renewal place to pound sand :seasix:

they can probably erase your info from the database if you don't pay.
however. I have never heard of a up-keep payment.
We are registered with AVID to do chip "installs", the needles for those are wicked.
we jsut collect the one-time from the customer and that's that. Fill out a form and mail it in. if you move or change phone numbers, just give them call.
no annual payment BS.

I have my answer. Thanks.
Different service tiers weren't an option with our vet.
