I am generally familiar with the most common types of birds, rodents, reptiles, etc...that I might find around my house...but what is this?
I came home tonight, about 11:00 PM to find this little thing sitting / hiding on my covered front porch. He / she is sitting on the molding in a corner, near the roof, staring at the wall as if nothing else is happening. My porch lights are on...so it is bright.
From ground level it looked like a hamster with a tail, or small monkey. Upon climbing a stool it appeared to be a bird, mostly brown, with a long tail. It appears to be a juvenile; however, I cannot be sure. What is it? I have attached two photos and a short video that I inadvertently shot while trying to shoot a photo.
This thing is totally benign. I will leave it alone, and do not want to disturb it...but I could easily just pick it up with my hand. What is this thing? If it it helps, I live in Charlotte, NC...just a few miles from the center of downtown (or uptown as we call it here).

Hard to tell from that picture.
A young hawk. Maybe a Redtail?
Roosting for the night.
Shoot it and wear it as a hat.

I am thinking that it is not a hawk. it is only a few inches long from end to end. I cannot see its face...but I do not want to disturb it. I really could just pick it up.

Cant tell from the Utah quality pics
looking closer, I step back from the owl thought... that tail does look hawkish.
And when did Utah start giving camera lessons??
Since you are in Charlotte if he's still there I would call the raptor center. the bird is obviously in distress.

I was dove hunting at the farm where I lived. When I was done, I came into the house to clean the six dove I shot. I got a phone call from my Dad, he needed to be picked up at the garage. I stuck the doves in the refrig and left.
I got back about 45 minutes later and my room mate said I cleaned the dove for you. I thanked him and opened the 'frig. There on the plate was six tiny little completely de-feathered doves. I never knew their legs were so tiny
( the breast meat is usually removed from the bird and pan fried in butter  )

Man, he went to a lot of work to get all the feathers off of each bird.
The little dove legs.
