I park every day in a hotel parking garage that is two doors down from my office. As I went by the hotel's back door that leads to the parking garage, I noticed that the sliding glass doors were open. Only problem is, the hotel has been closed for over a year. The hotel is still furnished, there's even liquor in the bar.
I tried calling the owner (Roberts Hotel Group) in St. Louis, no answer. They also own(ed) a radio station here, but the phone is disconnected. Although Roberts Hotel Group is the largest African-American owned hotel co. in the Country, lately they're had financial troubles.
I called the Police Dept. to report the unlocked door, doubt that they'll do anything. The old hotel was built in 1922 and is a beautiful old building, with lots of wood paneling inside. I'd hate to see it vandalized. Any ideas?
quick, steal the good stuff before someone else does.
get a lock and chain and secure things yourself?

:iagree: Get the liquor.
Go in, drink the booze, get hammered, drive, run into a family of 6, then sue the hotel owner for creating an attractive nuisance by leaving the door to the bar open.

No way to chain the doors without drilling some holes.

Just curious....how would you know that the liquor was still there unless you set foot inside of a closed hotel that up until today was locked?

i'd just have this happen to me if I did: (True story) A woman had an insurance scam going where she would drive her car very slowly on a 4-lane highway at night without her lights on. Eventually she'd get rear-ended and collect insurance money from the other driver. Eventually one driver didn't slow down before hitting her car and she was killed.

The hotel had a security guard up until a few weeks ago. We'd talk sometimes, and I saw the booze in the bar.

Whaddya wanna bet that the laid off security guard already ran off with the booze and anything else that would be usable or untraceably pawned?
Edit: Maybe he quit when the booze at the bar ran out.....no reason to go to work sober.

Well if they don't shut it up we know where Barn Raising 2.5 will be held. :funny:
Yep, and if the booze is still there, it's some good shit. That was a fancy hotel before it closed, and they served expensive liquor.

Do you know the name of the company for the security guard? You could contact the security guard company. Maybe the security guard is dead somewhere inside the hotel.

He didn't work for a security company, worked direct for the hotel. I know he isn't dead inside because I told him "bye" on his last day of work when he left.

An alibi of "I was by myself and no one else saw me" isn't going to be real strong. Remember, an alibi is like any other thing in life....you get what you pay for. So if you are looking to your Barn peeps to cover you....better open up that barnbuck checkbook. Just sayin'.
And, on a totally unrelated matter, I wonder how many security guard bodies can fit in the trunk of a Jaguar? Just wondering out loud, no particular reason. [whistles aimlessly]

Don't know, but probably more than one. Several years I took my wife and two 12-year-old girls to Atlanta for a 4 day weekend. In a 98 Jaguar XK8 (2-ddor sports car). All the luggage fit easily. The Jag trunks are huge!

I'll bet they have. I don't understand how they ever made any money in the first place in the hotel business (not that I'm an expert). When they bought the Walthall Hotel here in Jackson, MS several years ago, they paid $2M for it and put about $3-5M in remodeling (these figures vary widely). Problem is, everything they did to the hotel was superficial--paint and wallpaper, new room furnishing--but they did nothing about updating the air conditioning, water system, electrical, etc. There is no way it would pass an OSHA inspection.
Within a few months everything stopped working. You can't run a hotel with no air conditioned rooms. So they closed it "while repairs are being made" and never re-opened. That was almost two years ago, and the hotel still sits there with no electricity and moldy walls.

Good thing the wife and two kids kept the luggage from bouncing around in the trunk.
