What % are you up, as of today ?
I'm up 18.68% in my 401k for the year as of today....:waiting:
About half that much in my 401k.

I don't risk mine by gambling with it and I don't track it. It is what it is.
Was surprised to hear they automatically increased my contribution percentage this year. Apparently that's something they do as you near retirement?

I'm halfway between the two extremes. I try like hell to manage my funds in the 401(k), but honestly don't know enough about things. I've had my financial adviser help me pick some funds so I'm up about 4% since he helped me earlier this year. I would love 18%, what fcuking funds are you invested in? I don't want to gamble all of my money, but at the same time making 3%-4% a year ain't gonna help me retire early :(

I'm bailing at 59 1/2.
Everything I want to purchase is already bought and no debt. Low cost of living helps and the pension can't hurt but I'm able to save more cash in the next 4 years than than exists in the 401K... Assuming I can stay employed that long.

I'm with you--The only real debt I have is my house which I plan on paying off long before the 30 year note is up. There is nothing I really need or want (other than small toys, electronic nerd stuff, etc.). I'm saving as much as I can as long as the income stream doesn't dry up. I really don't want to work much past 55 which gives me another 17 years to save :shots:

:omg: I can't imagine putting the blinders on and not rebalancing when market conditions warrant...
19.04% ytd.......:seasix:...Who said anything about gambling ? It seems you are the one gambling by keeping your head in the sand.

Woohoo, free money. Nice that it grows on trees these days. The last crash was only a few years ago and you've forgotten about it already? :sadangel: I'm not recommending anything here. Allowing yourself be put in that position is absolutely your mistake to make, don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
I don't give a crap about accumulating anything I've not earned. Only thing affecting my savings is inflation. As long as it affects everyone equally and remains reasonable nobody can steal what I have.
The rug's fixing to be jerked out from under everyone again and this time they might not get up so fast. I'd prefer not to be on the rug in the first place and fail to see how that's a problem... Unless you think that makes me a free-loader and it should be mandated

All righty then....So, you're scared.... That's ok, as many people are. When the S&P hits 1425 ish, I'll be bailing for the year..... You just need to know your enemy, and then you can take advantage of the situation given to you.

Total assets return approx. 10% ytd. My tax-deferred assets are mostly in taxable bonds (Roths in equities) while taxable assets are mostly in equities. Why take risk when you can't harvest capital losses and you don't get taxed on interest? Why not take risk when you can live off cap gains at 15% and would be paying higher rate on bond interest or receive less interest?

I'm younger than you, so my situation is a touch different. When I get up to old age, like yourself, that will certainly be the plan......:D
our money advisor noted some time ago that we no longer had to take so many risks....so we don't. duh.
haven't done the % math, but even with taking some out for bills and a new kitchen, overall is still up for the year.
(i was told there would be no math :slap: )
