Here is my opinion on the whole chick fil a business. Certainly Mr. Cathy has his right to speak his opinion. The supporters have their rights. The gays have their rights. I just does not bother me. Live and let live. It is all a matter of TOLERANCE.We must all be more TOLERANT of other opinions, beliefs and lifestyle as long as no one else is injured by it. I am VERY TOLERANT of others. There is one group I am INTOLERANT of. I am INTOLERANT of those who are INTOLERANT of those of us that are INTOLERANT. There is just no excuse for it!
he said his feelings. nothing else. it didn't set right with those that feel different.
I can't tolerate threads like this.

I'm over it, it's stupid, and it needs to just go away. (the chic-fil-a controversy) as for gay marriage that's still illegal in 45 or more states, so to say you agrees with the existing law is hardly controversial. I'm over this issue too. It's time the government gets away from marriage all together, marriage should be governed by churches & civil unions by the state.
Want to get married? Great, head to the court house get your civil union and head to the church for your marriage.

the most INTOLERANT people... are the ones pointing fingers at those that don't agree with their ideas/opinions.
In an intolerant, but free society:
person A: I don't believe gays should get the benefits of legal marriage.
person B: I believe think gays should get the benefits of legal marriage.
they are both happy that the other has the freedom to have a different opinion; and shake hands with each other.
-------------------------------------------------
In an intolerant democrat/socialist society:
person A: I don't believe gays should get the benefits of legal marriage.
person B: you are shouted an INTOLERANT/RACIST/SEXIST BIGOTED/HOMOPHOBE; and person B assembles protests & boycots... wishing the other opinionated person were humiliated - jailed ... or both.
---------------------------------------------
some of the most hateful people... are the ones claiming that others are "hateful".
person A: I don't believe gays should get the benefits of legal marriage.
Most of the people I know that are against gay marriage feel they should have an equal right to those legal rights/benefits. Just don't call it "marriage".

:iagree:
the whole tax-break system for married folks was originally done back in the days when uneducated folk had "surprised pregnancies"... and there was no such thing as birth control.
There's no way in hell a gay couple will suffer financial hardship due to a "surprise pregnancy".
The remedy to this is to end the tax breaks - all together - for those having children.

I dont' mind that on a private industry level; but the federal/state/local govt should not be offering breaks to just some taxpayers... and not others, solely due to lifestyles.
I am a married heterosexual with no children; and I've had it with being forced to assist others that chose a life of additional financial burdon. It's America; you are supposed to pay your own way through life... with help from your family and relatives; not by grabbing from your neighbors paycheck.

That's a different argument.
IMO, gays and lesbians should be able to document a relationship where they can have equal rights afforded to married hetero couples in several other areas beyond any tax breaks. Part of that is directly related to who they can call "family".

What about single people? Why don't we get those special benefits?

People have the right to speak their minds.
Other people have the right to be deeply and genuinely offended by those views and take exception.
Freedom is messy.
I read this somewhere recently....
Saying you are offended is simply stating that you don't have control of your own emotions....
Or something like that.

Exactly. Eliminate the tax advantages of marriage, re-write those advantages back into the tax code as a "co-habitation" deal, get the govt out of the marriage business and give it back to the religions where it belongs.
Or just abolish the whole retarded idea and be done with it. Marriage is a sham, a lie we tell ourselves so we can feel like we aren't actually just big pink monkeys that can drive cars and play guitar.

I pretty much agree with you but we all can't play guitar. I play a harp.

...sigh...and the cycle continues....it is all just a big ploy, Mr. Cathy is a raging mo, he paid off a news caster to air his clip, and now he gets a butt load of free advertisement.
Wouldn't we all be eating crow if that were true.

Sigh.
Once again, the Chick-fil-A thing is about the 1st Amendment and the GOVERNMENT deciding that certain speech deserves punishment. That's all it is about, not that Mr. Cathy is anti-gay marriage. If people want to boycott CFA because of statements made by Mr. Cathy, more power to them.
When government officials decide to cancel pending business licenses simply because of statements made by Mr. Cathy, statements that in fact mirror the President's own opinion on the matter up until a couple of months ago, that's big big big no-no. Similarly, if a company were denied a business licence simply because the owner was pro-gay marriage and stated so publicly, it would be a big no-no.

Banning foreigners from buying weed at coffee shops really pissed you off, huh? At least they still have the red neon windows, so there's that......
