View Full Version : Moving the safe
I have to move the gun safe into the basement. Sooner or later I will have a gun room built around it ( When I get the money)
I took some pics of the contents for the insurance people. Figured I'd share with you guys as well.

I don't own any weapons. They scare me.

Two. I weighs in Empty at around 600LBS ( Its' a small one).
I plan on having a Concrete block room built around it late next year with enough room for 4-5 times as many firearms. I want to collect older WWII style weapons along with some classic Western style Rifles and handguns.

BE DAMN SURE the humidity and area of you basement you plan for, is DRY and very lo high moisture in say a rain storm will rust hell outta your collection FAST, and so to make damn sure your roof drains away from house foundation all around the joint, and make those downspouts flow at least 10' from the foundation....you simply can not have any lo spots next to the house....
:seasix::cert:
OH, one more thought, you need rebar put into all the blocks, one or two per slot in the blocks, and a 1/2" steel plate roof to stop anyone fron taking sledge hammer to the blocks that shatter instantly....obviously they are all going to be filled with concrete....

I have a whole basement dehumidifier in there for the past few years. The room will be built to basically be a safe. Rebar, concrete and steal plating are planned. That why I have to Wait to next year. After getting laid off twice and buying a second home int he last 12 months I am getting taped out financially. I have to build up the buffer then build the room right.

I consider a dehumidifier to be a band aid....not a cure....:seasix::cert:

There is no way to keep a below ground basement very dry without one. I have done all the things to keep water out and have never had a leak. But withe a summer time temp in the basement of 68 and Humidity of 90+% for weeks at a time the dehumidifier is a must in the summer. In the winter its actually static in the basement due to <30% humidity in the outside air
