We will have to get together on a bigger auto-X course bigger than Langley Speedway. I think the smart car tops out at 50MPH, on the straight away it won't be able to keep up with us, I hope. :lol1:

I think my major problem compared to him was wheel base in some of the slaloms...where it seemed like we just fit in between the cones, he looked like he had 3 car lengths to play with...it also appeared by the class he was in, he had done it before, and I was trying to avoid killing cones. :willy:

On the other hand, I got passed by a C4 today. :chicken:

Get out there and have fun... but be forwarned that it's extremely addicting. Also, your car will have cooling issues w/ that heat pump under the hood once you learnto really drive it on track. Also... braking issues once you pick up speed. But... it won't be an issue your first 4-5 events out dependign on how quickly you pick it up.
I'd like to do this !
You bought a wonderful car to learn in

I had a great time with the NCM full course for 2 days at VIR! 3.27 mile road course early in July 2007. The old 97’ does just fine on a road course with Hoosiers and my right foot. Was pointed by MANY times and passed a lot of C6ZO6s in the straights and hung with many in the corners……stock F45 suspension to boot…….160+MPH in the straights and 105+ in the climbing ssssssssss. 97’ did fine as I dogged the **** out of it for 2 days. All on pump gas. Got about 8 MPG and put over 180 track miles on it! Got the oil to 325 & trans to 274 in 90+ heat………….then drag raced it the next few weekend and took the R/U spot without a hitch running low 11s in 90+ degree heat. Man I love this car!!!!!!!!!

Says the person with Road Race experience...I am getting close, but as soon as I get a really good grasp of handling the car in a straight line and knowing exactly what the car is trying to tell me, then you and Steve will be starting on the road courses

Have ya met Steve, Jeff? All you have to do is ask. He has been my drag racing "Yoda Jedi Master". I ask him all kinds of questions, and he either gives me the answers, or points me in the right so I can try to figure out the answer on my own....he sometimes even speaks in cryptic tongues like Yoda. :yesnod:

I already told Steve that once I get Dragging down to the point where I want to be and am 320% in tune with what the car is telling me during acceleration and braking, then we will be moving on to road work.

Joe, for the record, you are talking about drag racing correct? I don't know if Steve would help you with the other dragging. :kick:

I am a vast well or useless knowledge and Trivia.

Like when the two iron clad ships battled (you know the bridge Monitor Merrimack Memorial bridge tunnel), one of the ships had been damaged and rebuilt and was no longer going under the name (which one, I forget at the moment :willy:)

edit: at the time of the battle, the Merrimack was named CSS Virginia

BTW, "DRAG racing" is rather humorous...usually done at night clubs, two guys volunteer to ride tricycles back and forth across the dance floor and at each stop, they have to get up and dress in a drag article, (usually a dress, wig, and shoes), then the first person to cross the finish line wins.

Doesn't change how thin the oil gets at that temp. Any clue what your WOT oil pressure was when you were running 300+. Sure M1 says it doesn't breakdown until 400, but an oil temp sensor reading of 320 means some localized temps can be higher. With a stock tune GM sets the car to go into limp mode at > 320.

I went a few years w/o an oil cooler in my car... getting one was great. No more need to think about oil temp. Never got over 270 in the hotest weather.

$600 oil cooler kit < new motor :yesnod:

I don't drink too much so that when people do get drunk and do stupid embarrassing things, I am still sober and can in detail remember and tell the stories of what others did. :D
