View Full Version : New phone
Just picked up a new Samsung Galaxy S3. So far it is very cool.
My dad just picked one up as well.......seems to really like it so far.
Are they finally in the AT&T stores?
Got mine from Sprint. Released at 11 AM this morning, out the door with it at 11:20. My blackberry was dying a slow death. The S3 has been delayed several times, so when they told me that they were going to be released, I made the appoinment and went for it.

Figures. I'm on AT&T and have been waiting for over a week since their "release" date.
I have an iPhone can't wait to get the s3.

I just got a Blackberry Bold 9930 from work. Nice features, but worst phone ever. You can't run apps on it. it bombs out and locks up frequently. I will probably wear out the back cover doing battery pull reboots if I don't drop in the toilet first.

Looks to be very similar to my Samsung Galaxy Nexus that I got a couple months ago. If so I have no issues with the phone other then/than being a google phone it wouldn't sync facebook contacts without an alternative app.

RIM will be DOA before the end of the year. Our company supports Balcberry and Apple and I dont know a single person still using a BB.

One of my son's buddies had an S3 and I got to look at it up close. What a phenomenal screen. I like the features too.
Ordered it on Friday from the AT&T Store and its already shipped. Should have it today or tomorrow. Had the iPhone for a few years. Good, but not great.

Was going to wait for the iPhone 5, but really like the S3:yesnod:

The SIII has a 4.8" diagonal screen; the iPhone is 3.5". I've always found the iPhone screen too small for any serious useage. Oh; for games, music, telephone calls... the iPhone works well. If you are going to use a smartphone for work applications; the screen size may be an issue.
Another tid-bit of the iPhone; if you're going to use it for work; you'd want to make certain there's Apple applications that will work with your companies servers, databases & such. Yep; there's a lot of iPhone apps; but a lot of them are written for kids (music, texting,...) and authored by kids as well. Just because an app appears on the list that says it will do what you want - better make 100% certain the app will perform; because tech support for that app may be on hold due to the author "taking his afternoon nap" :).
If the app doesn't work out- and you've already signed a 2y contract... you might end up carrying 2 phones :ack:

You forgot the biggest difference - 4G.

You forgot the biggest difference - 4G.
I forgot that the iPhone 4s is not 4g. The iPhone 5 is supposed to be.
Ok, half way thru the first day. Been off the charger since 5:30 this morning, was at 33% battery. I don't think that is too bad due to following reasons: Here at the Cape, it is always searching for the network to certain electronics and systems being tested; me constantly playing with it. Around mid morning I turned off the locators (GPS etc) which should slow battery consumption a fair amount. I have never had an android type phone before, just the blackberry. So far, as I play with it, it seems very easy to figure out where everything is without too muich effort. To this point I give it solid marks. More after I have had it a few days.
Okay, 5 day update. It is fantastic. Finally tested real world battery life, light use yesterday netted 70% battery last evening after being off the charger for 12 hours. Normal daily use being here at Cape Kennedy sucks the battery due to problematic connection issues due to distance to a tower and assorted electronics systems being in use. Very easy to use, lots of nice functions that I am learning. I give it 5 stars.
Ordering mine today through Amazon (save $50 that way), should have it Saturday.
Thanks for the report. Been eyeing it myself. Upgrade coming up at end of month.

My S3 came today, and I love it.
I got suckered into buying an LG MyTouch, and that phone SUCKS. I have the S3 with Verizon.
I've had my s3 for about a week now and like it better than the iPhone 3GS I had. I do have some issues with email vs the iPhone but they're minor. Biggest one is it takes longer on the android to show that Ive read an email in outlook. Just an annoyance while in the office.
iPhone is better:leaving:
Mmmmmmm, NO!

Any chance of an update after some time with it?
loving mine. Still learning about it daily.
Biggest complaint, takes a little longer than i think it should to return to the home screen after you hit the button.
other than that, love it. phenomenal screen. battery life is getting me through the day

I've yet to hear someone really bashing the S3.
Seems like Samsung has got their stuff together w/their Android phones. :yesnod:
Here ya go !!!
Yvonne just got her S3 (she had the original Galaxy S). It's sooo much faster; but she had a freezing lockup/problem... mostly when surfing Facebook. She took the phone back 2 days later; they exchanged it and the new one did the same.
What she found out is the Facebook application that comes with the phone "Facebook Mobile" (at lease the Verizon version) is known to be problematic. She deleted that app and downloaded a different one... and it's now working perfectly.
In summary; there wasn't really a hardware problem with her S3; but one with the factory/provider application used for a specific task.
She's called me a few times from it, and her voice audio is very crisp and clear.
This thing is fantastic. Very fast and everything works as it should. The battery life has settled into the very good to excellent. I can get thru a day with 45-50% life left. My blackberry never did so good, even with a new battery. Best phone I have ever had.
And how wrong you are.
Galaxy S3 is pretty damn nice android flavor-of-the-month.
Soon enough it'll wind up on the heap of phones that were hot stuff for a few weeks until everybody forgot about them.... hey, remember the RAZR? Galaxy Note? HTC One S?

Got the Droid Razr Maxx. Love it. I can even use it internationally since Ice Cream Sandwich was released now that GSM was enabled.

Isn't that true with all of the new technology? Today's hot item is surpassed within months.

I've heard great things about that phone though the one thing that gets me about Samsung is they all feel really light and cheap which makes me think I'm going to break them.
I guess I could update on Yvonnes SIII...
She was already experienced with Android, so there's no comments about the OS.
She's purchased one accessory, the flip case cover. It's an entirely new back cover - that also contains the flip over front cover; she really likes it (does not make the phone seem to be any thicker).
Next to purchase is a drop-in charger; you can get them on Amazon for under $20.00.
I have one for my Tim-Mobile HTC HD2. Other than making it a simple charging cradle arrangement, it holds the phone upright - angled back slightly. Heck, in the mornings - I check the weather maps and email with it sitting in the cradle; it's very convenient wit the phone being self supported and the screen tilted back at a laptop-screen angle.
The bigger SIII screen is a plus when Yvonne is reading a (Kindle) book and surfing the internet; though for serious reading - mshe will put the phone down and read using her Kindle Fire.
And doing the same duties as her older Galaxy S1... the SIII is soooo much faster at it.
Link for flip open case?
