View Full Version : Converting a deck into a drive under garage..

I was looking at my deck last night while mowing thinking this very well may be a possibility.. Here's the deal. The basement is unfinished but the wife wants to finish the entire thing as living space and another full bath. I on the other hand want to finish a portion of it and blow out the wall and add a 3rd bay. I'm not looking for a workshop area, just another garage bay to store a weekend driver/toy.
Check out the pics. I was thinking i could pour a slab under the deck and do something with under the deck joists for water runoff and then enclose it somehow? The drive in portion where the doors would be would be directly under the grill thats covered. The drive would go to the right of the back of the home.
Give me some ideas.. :waiting:

It sure would be a space saver, but I think by the time you change the deck into a water and snow proof roof, and the pain of working around and under your deck, you might as well build a garage. Good place for one of those portable storage tents though. :seasix:
And you will lose all natural light coming in through those windows...all thing to consider. :yesnod:

I did something similar with plastic roofing similar to this.
Shop Ondura 79" Red Corrugated Roof Panel at Lowes.com (http://www.lowes.com/pd_12749-1115-153_4294806362__?productId=3010612&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInfo=)
Overlap and allow for drainage. Works well.

I did the same thing with a slight slant for run off.

Did you enclose it or was it just to keep what you had under it dry?
