Dear Commerce Team,

I have informed the President that I am resigning as Secretary of Commerce.

The work that you do to help America’s entrepreneurs and businesses build our economy and create jobs is more important now than ever and I have come to the conclusion that I need to step down to prevent distractions from this critical mission.

I feel privileged to have been part of the progress we have made together for our businesses and workers as they “build it here and sell it everywhere.”

As I step down from the Cabinet, Dr. Blank will continue to serve as Acting Secretary. As you know, she provided very able leadership in this role last year, and I have every confidence that on her watch going forward the Commerce Department will continue to fulfill its mission with excellence.

In my personal capacity, I will continue to do everything I can to support the President and America’s businesses as they continue to advance innovation, U.S. competitiveness, and prosperity for our people in the months and years ahead.

Thank you for your many thoughtful and kind notes over this last week. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve with you.

Sincerely,

John Bryson

Anyone else think that there may be something about to come out about his "accident" ?

I thought he must have been loaded but apparently he passed a DUI test.

I heard he passed preliminary blood tests, but isn't there always two blood tests, one which takes more time and is far more accurate?

Forced to step down quietly so that he's out, but they liked him enough to let him still collect his benefits/pension/whatever.

My boss, too. I work at the Census Bureau NPC in Jeffersonville, IN.

Something doesn't smell right about it, IMO.

He was big into the "green" energy thing-which is why the big O hired him. A huge chunk of our ARRA money went into Solar panels. Payback is about 60 years. :slap:

My impression was that he's going through a period of poor health; could happen to any of us.

I'm sorry, I just don't buy it, a period of poor health doesn't involve quietly stepping down, during an investigation into your 'health' related accidents.

A period of poor health, involve doctors and press conferences that clear any wrong doing, as you continue to work to the best of your capacity.

:iagree: To become a "distraction" here in DC, it has to be big. A toxicology report might be big enough.

It's got to be medical; bad behavior seems to be embraced by this administration.

Seems like they now have a live person to blame for all the failed GREEN project failures. Watch and see if they don't pile It on...

Didn't this guy have a siezure, clobber a parked car, then pulled away, had another siezure and clobbered another parked car a few minutes latter?

Yeah, I think something ain't right here.

Maybe he was sleep driving.
Yeah, that's the ticket.

I've sworn to confidentiality, but there's all sorts of things going on in addition to the decennial census.

Follow-up later today from Rebecca Blank, Acting Secretary

Dear Commerce Team,

I want to thank everyone who has expressed their support and concern for Secretary Bryson over these past two weeks. I know it has meant a great deal to him. Secretary Bryson’s leadership played a crucial role in guiding our Department’s efforts to support American businesses as they “build it here and sell it everywhere.” I was very sorry to hear of his resignation yesterday and will miss him as a leader and a colleague.

I am honored by the opportunity to serve as Acting Secretary and will work to ensure that we press forward with all the good work that the Department of Commerce does every day. Our success in supporting business, driving innovation and competitiveness and creating jobs is possible only because of your efforts and commitment.

Already, American businesses have come a long way, creating over 4.3 million jobs over the past 27 months. You have been an important part of that story: from issuing more patents to entrepreneurs, to helping businesses learn about new trade opportunities, to strengthening our coastal economies, and much more.

I continue to enjoy hearing from you about what is working, what isn’t, and where we can do better. Thank you for continuing to work effectively to fulfill our critical mission.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Blank

Acting Secretary
