I was told it was the olde tyme family winter vacation estate, for sale it's really neat inside, and so some estate/junk hustler set up a sale running 3 days of salt mined antiques on the property....many time giving shit away, mostly not....
BUT inside that house...puts to shame any 'McMansion' in the DC region....
THIS spoke of OLDE TYME money going back generations.....the house had like 4 kitchens we saw, and many more bedrooms than we could count....
it was all old concrete stucco beige outside, and orange terra cotta tile....
the joint has like 5 major buildings plus a 3 car garage, double wide....
it's for sale.....
and right off the St. Johns river....
best guess as to price....
Do you think they would accept Barn Bucks?

Are you talking about the Club Continental?
From wikipedia
"A few meters away is Club Continental, previously called Mira Rio. Mira Rio or River Watch in Spanish was the winter palazzo of Caleb Johnson, son of the founder of the Palmolive Soap Company, now the billion-dollar Colgate-Palmolive company."
I used to be a member of The River House nearby. A great little bar on the river.

History of The Club Continental Estate
In the 1880’s B.J. Johnson, founder of the Palmolive Soap Company, looking for a place to escape the harsh Wisconsin climate, brought his family to the little town of Orange Park to winter.
His daughter, Karrie, came to love her new home, and in 1906 she and her husband bought a circa 1870 waterfront estate in Orange Park. They named their property Winterbourne, or “Winter Waterway” in her husband’s native Scottish tongue. The house still stands and serves as a beautiful venue for weddings, receptions, business meetings and other gatherings.
A few years later, Karrie persuaded her brother Caleb Johnson to buy a portion of her property. He and his wife Elinor commissioned an architectural firm in Milwaukee to design a Mediterranean structure they named Mira Rio. Building began in early 1922 and the family took up residence in May, 1923.
Elinor Johnson and her daughter Margaret loved to have their friends from the north visit during the “season”, and often all nine bedrooms were full of guests. In the early 1920’s there were parties and activities of all sorts from bridge, horseback riding, boating and swimming to formal balls. In the Club Continental there are pictures taken during this festive period.
Jon Massee, Margaret Johnson Massee’s son, conceived the idea of turning Mira Rio into a private member club. Thus, in 1966, the Club Continental was born. Over the years the Club has expanded its facilities to include seven tennis courts, three swimming pools, and twenty-two guest rooms. The existing lawns, along with 300 year old Live Oaks, Magnolias, and formal gardens are carefully and lovingly maintained. The Club Continental, managed by Karrie Massee, Jon’s daughter, has grown to over 700 members who enjoy and appreciate the atmosphere of “Old Florida” the Club has grown to represent.

Had you ever bothered to join the Jacksonville Corvette Club Gene, you would have been there many times. That is where we use to hold our annual meeting and Christmas party.

Eh, that's not a REAL Corvette club.....just a social club of going to different restaurants every week or two....hell, I could do that on my own, except I have no interest in that....
a REAL vette club has a sponsoring dealership with shop nights once a month, using dealer facilities....etc....Vette shows at the dealership...including the sales floor....
I was a huge letdown finding out that Jax had no such club with any relationship with a dealer.....

:iagree: Old farts social club. I joined and once I found out it wasn't any fun, I was out of there. Wasn't for me at all. Hell, we took a cruise and it was probably the most boring trip I've ever been on. The leader kept his speed at 5 under.
