Police: Drunk man fell asleep in wrong NY house

Posted: Mon, Jun. 11, 2012, 7:04 AM

NEWSTEAD, N.Y. - Authorities in western New York say a 20-year-old man thought he was sleeping on his friend's couch when state troopers woke him up over the weekend.

It turns out he was off by about 20 miles.

State police say a homeowner in rural Erie County town of Newstead woke up around 4:30 a.m. Saturday and found a stranger sleeping on his couch. He was unable to wake up the stranger, so his wife called 911. When troopers arrived, they found the very intoxicated man still sleeping on the couch.

Troopers say the man told him he thought he was at a friend's house on Grand Island, 20 miles west of Newstead.

The man was charged with criminal trespass and issued an appearance ticket for Newstead Town Court.

I saw a guy do that years ago when I was a batchelor living on S. Brook St. in Old Louisville. Guy was really blowed and was knocking on the 1st floor door swearing up and down he lived there.

Neighbor called the police and they tried to tell the man he lived two streets over according to the address listed on his driver's license, but he would not heed the voice of sobriety and reason.

Instead, he scuffled with the police officers and ended up getting cracked in the head with a flashlight, arrested, then spending the night in the pokey.

I know a girl who drove home after the bars closed a wee bit drunk, only to find out her house keys were not working.

Luckily the window was open so she was not locked out..

But to her disbelief there were people in her house, she screamed and yelled at them telling them to get out of her house!

When they refused, she called the cops to come throw them out

Closest thing like that happened to me was when an old girlfriend got off the elevator on the wrong floor while I parked the car. She was pissed:datawiz:. The door was open, she went in and tripped on a wheelchair in the hallway. Opps, we don't have no wheelchair! She apologized and came up to the right floor.
