used a Nikon D200 with a 50mm and extension tube.

Sure. That was my first time with digital. Last time I used that extension tube was years ago with my old Nikon FE.

#1 is over exposed. I ran it through Camera RAW, then PS.

#3 is out of focus. Same, lots of sharpening.

Macro is tough. EVERYTHING is critical for a good shot.

With my extension tube, I cannot get as far away as you did. The distance that is in focus is very small. With the wind blowing, it was hard to get the roses focused where I wanted. The tube has no contacts to link up with the camera. The settings were guesswork.
