The C6's are light years ahead of the C4 in refinement and responsiveness. They also aren't suffering from some self imposed 5.7 liter restriction that GM had in the prior to 2000, so that doesn't hurt either.

I was just thinking the other day why I don't just daily drive my '08- probably should.

Yes sir! But about the 5.7..... I'm looking into c5's. Don't think I'm going to be able to afford a c6. And I don't want a base c6. The gs's and the z06 bodys are soooooooo much more attractive. If I buy a base c5 coupe there's money in the budget to supercharge it.

Obviously I have driven both. They feel the same on the road and the late C5s like mine feel about as responsive as the C6s. Try to find a 2004 if you go the C5 rout, all the bugs were out of them by then. There were a coupe of critical recalls concering the column lock and fuel filler hose crossover, make sure those have been done and stay away from the magnetic ride control if possible, very pricey to repair.

Stupid question, what was the last year for the FRC? 2001? I'd love a Z06, love the looks, but they're still outta my price range. I might can swing an FRC, and toy with it......

mike100
06-05-2012, 1:04pm
If I had to buy a C5, I would go for the Z06, naturally, but second to that, a regular FRC that was in good condition.

I like the look, plus the targa top has been the bane of Corvette's existence for a few decades now. The FRC helps keep the chassis stiff and makes for a solid feeling car without the squeaks or extra weatherstripping to worry about.

I found a 99 FRC in white here in SD Co with 6000 miles on it. 6 spd, with good options. It was as much as a Z06 though, but what a find...I thought about unloading the ZR-1 to get it.

06-05-2012, 1:19pm
Before I bought the C6 I considered buying an FRC that was, what looked like, factory 600 hp super charged (I think). It had the HP on the valve covers but that still could have been aftermarket. It looked like one bad mutha. I don't remember it being Callaway either but at the time I didn't know that much about them and still don't. It sold before I could get down to look at it.

Let's see, driving a '32 down the street in Arkansas, why does that seem appropriate?

A fire started on some land near a farm in Arkansas. The county fire department was called to put out the fire. The fire was more than the county fire department could handle. Someone suggested that a nearby volunteer bunch be called.
Despite some doubt that the volunteer outfit would be of any assistance, the call was made.
The volunteers arrived in a dilapidated old '32 fire truck. They rumbled straight towards the fire, drove right into the middle of the flames and stopped! The firemen jumped off the truck and frantically started spraying water in all directions. Soon they had snuffed out the center of the fire, breaking the blaze into two easily controlled parts.
Watching all this, the farmer was so impressed with the volunteer fire department's work and was so grateful that his farm had been spared, that right there on the spot he presented the volunteers with a check for $1,000. A local news reporter asked the volunteer fire captain what the department planned to do with the funds.
'That ought to be obvious,' he responded, wiping ashes off his coat. 'The first thing we're gonna do is get the brakes fixed on our fire truck!'

Since those were taken, he's lost the whitewalls- they were biasply and rode way too rough- and his wheels are now black.

He's being prepped for paint now- just a low gloss black that will befit him, he's just my good ole truck, not a show ride.

The wide whites do it for me, too, but radial wide whites cost over $230 a pop, and I drive down alot of dirt roads to get to Chey (my five year old daughter's) favorite fishing hole. Just wasn't worth it. I've still got the bias plies, in case I go to a show....
