View Full Version : BR II Autocrossers - Please respond!!!
Iron Chef
05-22-2012, 7:13pm
The Nashville Club that normally runs the autocross has had to cancel. However, I received word from the NCM that they have all the equipment needed to run the event and are willing to let us use it if we run it ourselves.
1) Are we interested/capable of doing this and
2) Is there someone who would like to take the lead?
If so, please respond to Karen Renfrow at the NCM (her number is listed) as early as possible tomorrow. I will be on the road all day but will try to keep tabs on the situation in this thread and via cell phone, but it would sure be nice if someone could step up and contact Karen about this.
ALSO: No bitching in the thread. This is the situation we have to work with and the NCM is trying to be accommodating.
Thanks in advance. :cert:

It can be a team effort as long as it gets done without all you ladies squabbling.
THAT'S A JOKE.... :datawiz:
Thanks folks :cert:
PS - Craig...Val has NOTHING to do.... :D

So what are the requirments to be able to do this. I have never done AC and myC5 is stock but I would love to be able to just get out and run it.
Do I have to be sober?

To be to the point....drive it and have fun! It's a tiny course and very humbling. No risk to hurting your car. You likely won't win, but it's a hell of a lot of fun and one of the larger events each year in the BG cruise in's. Lots of people, lots of fun.
Mostly sober is recommended.

God that sucks. I wish I could help, but I need to leave town fairly early on Saturday.

Thanks Craig...I was kidding about the sober part but it may be fun to just get out and open it up a bit. Not necessarily going BTTW but just a little more spirited than on public roads.

Craig, I have very little extra time this week after being gone for 2 weeks. But, I'd be glad to help out in any way I can.
I can certainly make some phone calls or print materials if need be.
Let me know how I can help if you'll be taking point on this one.

UPDATE!!! Thanks to all the people who stepped up to volunteer, and also those that verified participation, the autocross WILL NOT be cancelled. However, there is a change in the autocross schedule for the volunteers.
Volunteers that are helping run the autocross event need to be there at 8:00 AM, not 8:45 AM (as listed on the NCM online schedule).
If you ARE volunteering, you will need to be there early to help with set up, instructions, etc. Only those that are NOT volunteering should be arriving at 8:45 AM.
Thanks for taking the lead, Craig. This was a bit of a late cancellation for both the NCM and us. It looks like Scott is going to help out. Thanks, Scott.
TTT for the evening crew. Is anyone else able to give these guys a hand with running the event?

I'll be there and while I am around I will gladly help out where I can but as of right now, I am not going to be able to stay too long on Saturday.
I want to save my decent set of tires so I just slapped some 4 year old, heat cycled out Kuhmos on the track car. I will be no threat to win, but I should be interesting as hell to watch! :willy:

I would dearly love to hear why you think I have a less restrictive schedule than you, since I am signing on after a dinner meeting at 11:00. :leaving:
I will do whatever is necessary for this. However, I am gonna need corner workers, tech inspectors, and some sort of relatively cohesive explanantion of what group is organizing this. :cert:

So, how many people will you need?

I believe that you still have to be registered, for insurance purposes. This was the reason we were given as to why people that had not registered could not participate in the activities sponsored by the NCM. While we may be providing volunteers for this event, I believe it is still considered an NCM sponsored event.
I'll shoot off an email to verify.

Excellent point. I had not even thought about this. See above. I'll find out.

Either Mike or I will get some more answers from the NCM. This change all came about very late today, unfortunately. Nothing the NCM could have predicted ahead of time. They received short notice on this, as well.

Typically the Corvette Club running the event would have requested the insurance from the NCM so as long as the previous club did that you should have no issues. You'll need waiver forms, some kind of registration, and car numbers. You'll need power to run the equipment and possibly a laptop/ PC unless the NCM provides that as well. Wish I was going as our CC has been running autoXs for quite a while.

05-23-2012, 6:17am
Sandy, whem you are talking to the NCM today, could you make sure we have access to the trailer with all of the stuff in it?
Also, we are going to need workers at the course no later than 7:30 to set everything up.
Could someone set up a sticky thread where people can sign up to help out?
Loco Vette

And it might also be useful for people to "sign up" for the autocross on the proposed sticky so that we have an idea of what's coming. :-)

So, here are the answers I have, to clarify some of the questions.
NCM will provide all equipment.
At this point they do have a member of the Nashville Corvette Club coming to help us with the timing issues – IF – we have at least 10-12 cars participating.
It is still considered an NCM sponsored event – they have a very good relationship with Trace Diecast and they let us use their parking lot.
They will have NCM staff there in charge of the event so they have the liability and insurance issues covered.
Must be a registered participant to volunteer AND run in the autocross.
It appears that the NCM will still be running the event, but needs volunteers to replace the Nashville Volunteers that were originally going to run the race.
I'm going to run through this thread and others to try and get an idea of the number of people that have stated the would like to be participants. I will start making a list and get verification so we can have a solid number for Karen.

Registered for BRII, as far as I know. When registering for the overall Barn Raising event, there was a release of liability waiver that you had to accept in order to register. The waiver covers all of the events sponsored by the NCM, including the autocross.
I don't think there was any registration for the autocross, which is why the NCM does not have any participation numbers. I need to get those for her very soon, as we will need at least 10-12 cars for the event to remain.

I think we will easily hit that #. Hell, I'll run my own car. After all, it's only 3 laps. Shouldn't do "too much" damage to my tires.
I will also help in whatever capacity. I am being voted in as the President of my autocross club down here in Florida tomorrow. Replacing the existing president of 16 years. We have a really big group. I'm more than capable in the tech inspection, timing and scoring, ...

Ok, I quickly scanned through a few threads, but I'm sure I missed some people that have stated they are interested in participating. If you know of someone that is participating, and I don't have them on the list, please point them to this thread.
Also, in scanning through so fast, I may have misinterpreted some people's responses as participating versus just watching and vice versa. Let me know if I have you down on one of these lists and it is incorrect.
Here is a list of autocross participants (those with an asterisk next to their names have also volunteered to help run the event):

Just communicated with Karen from NCM. I let her know that we have (so far) 10 participants and several volunteers. The event will NOT be cancelled.
Please note that the schedule states that the drivers need to meet there at 8:45 am. I'm trying to find out if the volunteers need to be there earlier than that. I would assume they will have to be.
