Another reason not to trust the police right there. I grow more weary (wary?) of them every day and it has a lot to do with them collecting "revenues." :yesnod:

That is nothing but just flat out infuriating. Complete and total bullshit. The law enforcement agency knows it too.

If the people were smart enough, cared enough, or even knew what was going on, they'd vote the damn sheriffs and police chiefs out.

I seem to remember Texas doing the same thing not long ago. That's an absolutely disgusting practice.

I heard something about that, but have never been asked if I had anything more than drugs or weapons in my car even when I had FL tags.

I guess the only response is "No sir, I don't carry cash."

First mistake, talked to the police and granted a search of his car.

Secondly, he did get his money back, but once the man confiscates your stuff, it has to go through the courts or whatever county procedural bs. See the first sentence.

This isn't really much different that what could happen in most states- the police flex their power since they don't have to pay for their court costs.

Correct. I always refuse to let them search my car. Most look at me like, "WTF? Oh no he didn't!" All three times, they let me go with a warning (brake lights out) when I told them I have plenty of time to wait. Gutsy move, but oh well. When they have broken shit on their cruisers (yes, I've seen stuff like that before) are they going to let me search their shit? Yeah, bad argument, but that's how I feel about it.

A Monterey police officer wanted to know if he was carrying any large amounts of cash.

"none of your business. I am going to reach for my cell phone and I'll verify your behavior with the Chief of Police".

"And he couldn't prove it was legitimate,"

you don't have to prove you're obeying the law.

Where's the ACLU on this? Oh, I should of known... protecting the rights of felons, gays, thugs; and making sure that dead people/illegals can indeed vote for democrats in a national election

Bank Secrecy Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a result of the government trying to prevent crimes. Yet another example of government good intentions ending up being used badly.

Even though this has been in place for some time, I bet those damn 99%ers condone every bit of what happened in the OP because it's legal based on this and gets money back to the people.

I've had about $30 in one dollar bills at the nudie bar in the past and some chick was telling her friends that I had a shit load (large) amount of money on me. I guess the term is subjective.

While I love to bash the Progressives this issue as well as many others is a result of PEOPLE demanding government DO SOMETHING to make them feel better.

Its a continuing failure of Americans to take responsibility and their desire for security over liberty.

So you get the point of my sarcastic remark

I'm tired of the government doing for me what I/we don't need it to do and I'm tired of people demanding I let the government do what I/we don't need it to do.

In our state you confiscate cash only with a legit drug bust along with other property such as Vehicles and boats. And you forfeit upon conviction.

In Louisiana, they take your money at the time of the "arrest", but they turn you loose right after.

They keep your cash, but dismiss the "charges".

Sweet deal.:cert:
