of the C5 that was under the back of a semi? The driver was still in the car. Does anyone here know the real story with that accident? Message circulating on FB claims he was texting. I don't recall any mention of texting.

So, was he texting? Or is someone using that photo for false reasons?

The corvette accident listed elsewhere: It was on route 287 N at the border of NY and NJ the truck was parked on the shoulder of the road where many trucks pull over to rest. The driver was a 58 year old man killed instantly. I was there 15 mins after it happened. The truck driver was leaning on his truck throwing up . There were no skid or brake marks at all. It was a clear day about 1 in the afternoon. It appears the driver if not trying to kill himself must have been asleep or unconscious. Very sad to look at. My wife said its a sign for me not to drive my 03 Z06 as fast as I do. The emergency workers where just arriving as we drove by and no one was rushing to do anything the accident created a 15 mile back up for 8 hours during the investigation. Very very sad. Richard in jersey.
You could not see it in the picture posted elsewhere but the entire body of the corvette was gone except the rear light panel.. If you looked fron the side there was not one bit of plastic body on the car it shattered from the impact you could not see any body color at all.

That's one hell of a traffic backup for an accident that didn't even occur on the roadway. With traffic that heavy there's a good possibility it was already backed up and that caused the accident. Nobody expects to stop on the freeway. Catches me offguard damn near every time.

When the car in front of you totals out on an immovable object on the freeway they're stopping faster than your reactions and brakes will allow. Not unusual for me to make a dive for the emergency lane rather than rear end them. I've done it several times when stopping wasn't an option.

This usually works out OK but if the shoulder is occupied then you have no choice but to ditch it, assuming there's time and room to do that, but that's no guarantee. BTDT and things can get real hairy real fast.

When first posted many years ago on CFOT. There was a link to even more gruesome pics on the other side of that black curtain. Someone said the guy was weaving in and out of traffic and was trying to pass in that lane. There was a run on CFOT for awhile with gruesome accident pics like this.
