Trunk Monkey decided to take his C4 hooptie up to Cruise-In X. He breaks down along the way. Some of the people attending somehow help him limp it to Bowling Green. Then when they finally get it to the parking lot, they spend half the weekend on and off trying to fix it, along with lending him what I understand was a decent amount of money to help him fix it so he could get his sorry ass home.
Not only was no one ever paid back (to my knowledge), but there wasn't even a thank you. Shortly after that, he just disappeared into the ether. Then I guess today he shows up at CF: "Hi Guys! :kimblair:"
I remember driving through the parking lot of the Hampton on Sunday...we were getting ready to leave...there was England Green, in the rain, working on dipshit's car. He walks over to me and asks if I can help out with any cash because they have to fix this and that and tow it somewhere...who knows. At this point I look up and see Dork Monkey taking a drag off a cigarette. I looked back at EG and said "I don't think so." Then my g/f (at the time) reaches for her purse and I slam my hand on it and said "Don't even think about it."

And growing up means you take care of business and do what's right. So if a bunch of people do me a huge set of favors like that...loan or no loan...I'm finding a way to make it up to them.
That hasn't happened in this case, and I'm not expecting that it will.

Some of you high and mighty posters might try to think back before you had your mansions and multi-car collections. He bought into a dream that he couldn't afford and it sounds like he didn't have anyone to show him how to work on cars either. Let's face it, keeping a C4 running isn't exactly a walk in a park for a kid with no vehicular mentor.

OK, sure...allow me to think back to when I was 19 or 20 and didn't have my McMansion and car collection: I lived in what could loosely be called a bachelor apartment (that is, when the cockroaches weren't holding their quarterly rodeo on my bathroom floor). I went to community college full-time and usually worked two jobs to make all my debts. Back then, my car collection consisted of a 1971 Dodge Coronet sedan with two banged in rear doors that I bought from my old man for $700. How's that for reminiscing?
I'm not going to speak for anyone else, but one of the reasons I have what I do now is because back in the day when I didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of, I had the presence of mind to make more good decisions than bad. You see, I didn't buy into dreams back then...I bought into reality. And the reality was that if I didn't take care of business, I'd be eating dinner at the downtown mission which was really effing unappealing. I understand that shit happens and kids will be kids, but I don't suffer fools easily. And if someone or some people lent me a hand along the way, or helped me out of a jam I was in, I was damn sure grateful for that and knew how to show it.
Maybe some of you high and mighty posters might think back to the times when you were screwed out of your hard earned money by some inconsiderate knitwit who clearly (as has been mentioned BY THOSE WHO WERE THERE) just took advantage of people. This guy doesn't need a "vehicular mentor" (whatever that is). He needs a kick in the ass.

Also I believe that trunk monkey vanished after CIX for the reason he did not want the questions of "have you paid back the people who donated money". I work 40+ hours a week, while attending nicholls, and having a life. This excuse of not having time is bullshit in my opinion. Hell I still find time to post and converse with people online and in person.
Regardless if the money was given as a gift, a small token of thank you is in order. Cigars, bottle of whiskey/scotch, hell a fruit basket would show some appreciation.

If I lend someone money or help them out they better be at my beck and call 24/7.
They owe me their life, their wife and their newborn.
Actually I don't keep score. I also never expect anything back. This way I don't feel the need to put a hurting on someone.
My uncle said to me once there is nothing wrong with lending people/family/friends money. Just make sure you can afford it and never expect to get it back. This way you're not disappointed.
I also know that if you are a freeloader you will not be part of my life again.

Some people seem to think donating to something requires payback. An eye for an eye. On a one-on-one business transaction, that may be the case. ie; You get a loan from the bank, you pay it back. Transaction complete.
In a community/forum situation, it's much different, it gets spread around, we occasionally help those in need, and maybe one day, we might find ourselves in a situation where we ask for a favor in return. If you hang around long enough, you might find yourself on both ends of the deal, that's the implied expectation, but no one's keeping score.
Well, I should say no one "should" be keeping score, nor attaching personal/political values to that concept. A donation is simply that, a willing offering to something/someone else of free choice.
If you don't want, or can't afford to donate, that's fine, don't. If you find yourself in a situation where people donate to you, be gracious and thankful for the help.
No one WANTS to be on the receiving end of a donation drive, for any reason. If you had a spare $1800 in your pocket, I know you would have just bought the tires yourself. We donated because we wanted to see you have the fun and experience, and chipped in a little to make that happen, no big deal. Watching the vids and seeing you become a better racer was our payback. You only need thank Craig for that opportunity, his contribution was far more valuable than any Paypal donation you may have received. :yesnod:
If you think we will be upset because you don't pay us back in cash, you are very mistaken.

No, you won't, and it was never asked of you.

I can't say "Thank you" enough for the tires. As for me Saying "Thank you" to Craig isn't enough. One of these days I will think of something to repay Craig for the amount of Abuse I put in that car. But you may say no to repayment even if it was just to see me have fun. But If I didn't attempt to repay, I wouldn't be doing how I was raised, justice. It's the nature in me. I hope to one day be able to provide the same fun for someone else one day :cert:
Well said Tom.
And similar thoughts to the 'pay it forward' last year around Christmas. Some gave, some received, some did both. There was no scorecard kept.

I remember this. If it wasn't for me his ass would still be on the side of the highway. I was the only person who hadn't been drinking that night, wasn't feeling well, and I took off in stagnkillers vette to get him. He was very appreciate to me for getting him. As many of you know, I was given the opportunity to race dates car with money from many of you. Weather you will take it or not i will repay every person who sent me money. Now I am still in college working 40 hours a week plus school to make ends meet. But the first paycheck out of school that I can afford to send money, by golly I will.
Marcus,
If your talking about the tire money for running Craigs car forget about paying me man. I know how great it was to drive my Z06 when I had it. Glad to see you did so well. Please do not think of it as a loan it was a gift sir.:cert:
