Anyone else installing win7?

Been playing with it for about 6 weeks now at work. I really like it.

On a side note, the Vista SP2.1 release will actually be W7 in a Vista wrapper :D

I have been running the 64-bit RC2 version for a few months now and I like it a lot more than Vista. I am thinking about wiping my other laptop, dropping Linux on with Virtual Box running Windows 7.

I can't wait to get rid of Vista...

Now, if MS would get rid of Office 2007 I'd be a happy camper.

I dual boot Linux at home. I use Linus and Mrs. WKMCD boots Vista.

SCO at the office and Server 2008. I think I rebooted the SCO server about a year ago.

Can I upgrade straight from Windows 3.1?

Try Open Office. I haven't ran it since 199x but I have heard good things about it.

Yes you can. Go to Best Buy and ask if they have Windows 7 on floppy disk. :smilelol:

That's amazing considering anything less than 1 GB is junk these days. :lol1:

Windows 7, is that a new Linux distribution?

I thought I was getting rid of a Windows server at work in a couple of weeks, but no, the old one comes out but we are getting a newer piece of Windows crap.

Most of my boxes are Solaris machines, a few Linux. To many programmers only know winblows now, what a shame.

Ask if they have it on 360k 5 1/4 floppies. You'd need about 400 of them.

I've had it for years. Not bad for internal use but doesn't save in MS formats well.

Is that right? Interesting. I really don't have any issues with Vista - it came on my current notebook, and I haven't had moments problem with it.

Posting from windows 7 pro x64. Only two real hickups so far. Default sound driver doesn't work so I'm looking for one, and for some reason it doesn't like my product key

edit: sound issue fixed :D

As much as I bash Windows OS, I probably will have to get Windows 7 due to the fact many programs are only windows compatible. I hated vista with a passion and would not my a computer with it loaded.

Keep us posted on your Windows 7 experience.

I think I'm going to take the plunge and try it out. XP is getting a little stale and I need some techno junk to kick my butt this week.

So it turns out that MS is issuing different keys based on the 'upgrade' and 'retail' versions, so I had to install a 2nd time on top of the fresh install I did this morning for it to register my product key.

My biggest headache now is trying to get all my bookmarks imported. So far I really like 7.

Nice. I gotta run out and pick it up, though I bet it's gonna be more than 30 bucks. :(

So what is it that makes 7 so much better than Vista? I have vista on my laptop and it seems fine although not my favorite but no hardcore complaints. I went to the MS website and checked out their little 7 demo and I didn't really see anything that jumped out and said "This is a great new OS". It seems just like Vista.

I may just go back to running Linux for a change of pace. It has been a few years since I used Linux so maybe they have some better apps for what I want to do now.

So, now I'm really pi$$ed!!!

I downloaded Windows 7 Ultimate. Looks like there is a known problem at Microsoft and Digital Rivers regarding the download. I - and a LOT of others - get a permissions error problem saying the install can't create files blah, bla, blah.

They know about this problem but keep allowing the download and taking your money???? BS!!!!!

I'll call Amex and get mine back.

Bill Gates is pretty much done, just enjoying life. Steve Balmer is an idiot, I am surprised Microsoft hasn't gone under with his leadership.

I feel for you, Microsoft is the only company around that can charge so much money for a patch to fix Vista.

What happens is that the unpacking program tries to run one of the setup programs and it can't. The files are transferred perfectly fine. What OS are your running?

I realize that and there is a workaround that I am perfectly capable of doing. My point is that MS SHOULD have enough money to get this right on their major product.

I COMPLETELY agree. The other issue I found is that I did a clean install and MS was rejecting my key saying my key was only vaild for an 'upgrade' so I had to 'upgrade' from win7 TO win7 for it to accept the key :skep:
