I was recently informed that I will be going to Amsterdam for a week for work.

I have never traveled out of the country. Any advice? :waiting:

I'll be working, so I have to behave.

Take condoms and a AMX card.

I always keep a condom on my AMEX. I don't know where those other cards in the machine have been.

Take any medicine that you possibly could need. There is nothing like having a headache or stomach issues and having to find what you need.

Do they have White Castle that serves drunk people walking through the drive-thru?

Gail brings up a good point. Make sure you have medical insurance. I have seen frightening situations abroad when travelers assume they are covered and aren't. I personally want a policy that will bring me home if there is an emergency.

Since it's a business trip, you may be covered, but I'd make sure.

I should contact my health insurance provider, tomorrow.
Thank you.

I have a few questions:

1) is the jet lag going to be that bad? The trip is 9 hours going and 9 hours 40 minutes coming home.

2) Does Delta have 120 VAC outlets on the plane? Will I need an inverter/transformer for my phone, Ipad, and laptop?

Both flights have free drinks

The Red Light district. What wimmens do you want since they have any/all types available. Yes, some are displayed just inside the windows. Why do you think some guys will smile when you say you're going window shopping? Also, be prepared to see the older couples on their first trip outside of rural Kansas smack in the middle of the Red Light District. You'll know them by the shocked look including the open mouth. :D

The Coffee Shops. What drugs do you want?

A side of additional freak show at the train station since that's also where you can see the drug users shoot up and pass out as you go to catch your train.

There's supposed to be some other places including Anne Franks home, the diamond center, and some guy with a museum by the name of Van Gogh.

Everyone's different, but I never felt jet lag untill I got back home. Conventional wisdom says it takes a day of recovery for each hour of time difference. There are lots of variables. Try to sleep on the way over.

I don't know about Delta equipment. BTW, hookers and blow can't be much fun when legal!

On average, you'll have some jet lag but will soon get adjusted.

Since you're on a one stop nine hour flight destination, the electronics may be more of a hassle to unpack/pack than it's worth. The inflight tv/movies and a magazine or two might be just the ticket. You'll also probably find yourself sleeping in that time.

get a few euro plug adapters. They sell kits that should cover all possible scenarios of wall sockets, just make sure it is 110 or 220 before you plug it in
. Jet lag can be dampened by drinking in proper volume to make you sleepy when it is bed time in the country of destination.

Make sure you get up and stretch every half hour or so when not sleeping. It is very important for you to get proper blood flow to your exremities. You will feel better when you arrive. Sittting too long in an airplane without getting up and moving around is ten times worse than in a car.

I flew Delta/Air France on several trips to Paris. Unless your in business or first class, it's doubtful you'll have a power outlet.

Once you get your flight nailed down, check Airline Seating Charts - Best Airplane Seats - SeatGuru (http://www.seatguru.com) You can see the seat configuration and power options..

:iagree:

Economy will/does suck. The difference in how you feel at your destination is noticeable between economy and business. However, seats with extra room or a nicer equipped foreign carrier will help.

I did that tour, let me recommend you go to a coffee shop after the Anne Frank house and not before. That's all I'm sayin'

Oh, and do a tour of the Heineiken brewery, I hate their beer but it might have been one of the best beers I have ever had when it is fresh. :cert:

I did the same thing Rob!! Heineken tour was good too. Also, Bart, if you do indulge in any of the local herbs and spices, make absolutely sure you know your where abouts and don't go wondering around Amsterdam at midnight completely lost!! Luckily, we ran into some nice locals that helped us out, but from what I was told by others, we were lucky!!

Do they have White Castle that serves drunk people walking through the drive-thru?

No, but they have many "Bulldog Cafe'"s (it's the name of a chain), which are coffee shops that offer a wide variety of pre-rolled joints using some of the best dope you'll ever find. They usually come 3/pack for about 10 Euro and you can sit out at a table, sip your coffee and blow your mind.

As to the sex workers, there is a red-light district in which you can check out your options from the street. My wife and I walked through it last summer and laughed a bit...being from Brooklyn, I don't shop retail, as it were.

I'd also recommend the museums...the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum are wonderful...and looking at Van Gogh while stoned is a treat.

Have a wonderful visit to another planet.

Partly true. Prostitution, yes. Marijuana is actually illegal but it is tolerated. The Opium act of 1919 outlawed narcotics, marijuana was added to the act in 1950. All other drugs such as mushrooms, cocaine, heroine and LSD are strictly illegal.
