I don't believe.
GM only let them keep each one for a year or, IIRC, and then they sold them as used cars.

It's the ultimate "story" car.:D
This idiot thinks it's 100K car b/c Neil drove it for a year.
Cars owned by former astronauts that have already been restored don't bring that kind of money.

Neil is kind of an asshole ...
"A March 1969 meeting between Slayton, George Low, Bob Gilruth, and Chris Kraft determined that Armstrong would be the first person on the Moon, in some part because NASA management saw Armstrong as a person who did not have a large ego."
"Armstrong was approached by political groups from both ends of the spectrum after his aeronautical career. Unlike former astronauts and United States Senators John Glenn and Harrison Schmitt, Armstrong has declined all offers. "
He doesn't do interviews, sign autographs or make public appearances.
You are aware thats exactly why he was chosen to be the first?
He doesn't do interviews, sign autographs or make public appearances.
And THAT is what makes him an asshole?

:iagree:
We didn't do work for Neil personally, but other than him being a private-type person I never heard any negative comments about him.
All of the men and women I have met(Shuttle astronauts) have been nice, engaging folks.
John Young (whom I admire greatly) could wear you out if systems time ran long, but he was a real pro all the way.

That makes him a very private person, which is well known. Now, if you read the "The Right Stuff", Tom Wolfe describes him, presumably based on interviews with Chuck Yeager and a bunch of guys, as a pretty arrogant pilot. Having been a naval aviator during the Korean unpleasantness and later, a test pilot, some of his alleged arrogance is explicable.
I have known only one astronaut personally (2 missions on the Space Shuttle)...when we went to school together, he was one of the really classy guys I knew.

WELL I WOULD GIVE YOU SOME BUT THE GUY WAS GOING TO CALL BACK BUT DIDN'T SO I GOT THIS OTHER STUFF,BUT I HAVE TO PLANT IT STILL. SO WHEN I GET IT I WILL CALL, BUT RIGHT NOW I HAVE TOO MANY OTHER PROJECTS SO I WILL JUST SELL IT WITH THE NOS SEEDS SO YOU CAN FINISH IT.
In regards to him being an asshole...I think that classification is wrong. Here is why. Most people with more knowledge than most other folks often keep their mouth shut. Hence why he was/is thought of as an asshole. However, this proves to be in their best interest as they are able to listen twice as much as talking. YMMV.

Do you really feel it's worth 10 times market value just because it was leased for a year by Neil Armstrong?

I never said I felt it was worth $110k.
I said I would own it if money wasn't a concern.
Something is worth exactly what someone else will pay for it. Judging by the 4 bids at $110k on ebay, it is indeed worth that much.

My oldest son went to space camp and "met" him last year. By that I mean he walked with a few other people down between the kids, but took time to shake a lot of hands. I'm not a fan of arrogant people though, regardless of any accomplishment. I have heard from two good friends that have met Chuck Yeager personally, and both said he was the most arrogant f'r they had ever met. Both were uniformed military guys when they met him and I have no reason to doubt them. Hell, I met the Vice Chief of staff of the Air Force today, General Breedlove, and he came across as a real nice guy. :cert:

It has made it to the front page of Yahoo. Although, this part is very wrong, "original GM Protect-O-Plate -- a factory-installed piece of metal stamped with Armstrong's data along with other specs for the Vette". These were made at the dealer, when the car was sold, the factory never knew the buyer of the cars.

Met him when he came out to Dryden years ago. Yes, he is that way. DEMANDS first class airfare on the taxpayer dollar (since it was invitational travel to NASA Dryden), won't do autographs or interviews. Pretty pompous.
Yes, I agree he did great things. So did Buzz Aldrin and he's FAR more approachable.
Since I was born during the Apollo 11 mission, I'm VERY happy my parents didn't name me after Neil (attitude) or Buzz (general name)!
