You are required to have anal sex with the specimen for a positive verification.

HOW in hell could I ever know?? only way I could 'catch him' would be to kill him, there are several others around also....kinda looks like them pine boring bees I been seeing around that leave 3/8-1/2" holes in untreated pine like the open cover deck out back....if I see one I kill it with carb cleaner....
but to ID something like that,?? I heard of African bees invading and being super agressive, but they not attacking us outside.....long as it don't 'bug' me I don't have to bother with it....
just wish those damn moles and 'dillos would quit digging in front yard.....seems I gotta set there all night like some sniper and wait on their asses.....

My mistake. That's not a honeybee; it's a Carpenter Bee (Mason Bee). They'll also bore holes in any unpainted part of your house.

THAT is probably why the P/O's installed plastic sofitt vents and aluminum covering over the fascia behind the gutters....
funny they only go for like 2x4's but not T1-11.....come think of it, all the painted wood is not attacked either.....
funny to watch them suckers attack untreated wood though...they drill like little mavens with carbide bits....

Yep, and they make some tunnels inside the wood that are unbelievable--very extensive. It's funny how they won't bother painted wood but will bore into stained wood.

Maybe not. Mason Bees are an odd lot. They tend to return to the same area each year to re-use the old tunnels or to build new ones close to the old ones. Like within a few feet of each other.

Yes, I have noticed that behavior, so to seal all the holes with caulking and paint.....damnit....it subtracts from the island flavor of the joint....that ticky tacky casual flavor....all it really does is cover Linda's plants from too much sun, for the most part...:cert:

I'd let it be. I've never know the tunnels to cause any structural collapse; they're mainly just a bit unsightly and maybe worrisome.

UMM...well ok, it's been some years now....maybe 9, and so I keep a eye on them, can't use carb cleaner any more as it kills plant leaves, even a droplet...
:leaving: then the short person does the mmamaaaamamama!!#$$$$@ and I have to endure pain.....:kick::slap:

We have them here too. Along with all kinds of creepy crawlies since our lot backs up into woods. We get out exterior sprayed several times a year to control all the bugs.

You can get a termidicide (google how to get rid of carpenter bees) that will kill them if you spray a couple of times. They also sell a powder to kill the eggs in the holes. It really workss for a couple of years or so.
