View Full Version : Who loves SPAM?

Munch

I sure do love me some SPAM. Chop it up in little pieces and put it in macaroni and cheese, sliced thick on a sandwich with lettuce and mayo or just plain. The absolute best though is what I call SPAMbled eggs. Scramble some eggs with tiny chunks of SPAM, chopped onions and a little cheese and voila... Delicioso!

The best thing is that my wife won't touch the stuff so I never have to share!

Anybody else love SPAM?

Can't say that I'm a fan of any type of SPAM.

Though, I used to eat alot when I was younger. :)

Come to Hawaii. It's a favorite here. They close the streets in Waikiki once a years for SpamFest. Top chefs from all over the island come and cook dishes with Spam.

And yes, you can order breakfast at McDonalds with Spam and rice.

I loved SPAM in 2009 and I still do. Luau style fried with a BBQ/sweet/sour sauce. On rice with a nice pineapple and cottage cheese salad on the side.

Always knew mom was in a good mood when the scoop of cottage cheese had a neon maraschino cherry half on top:seasix:

Musubi is the quintessential spam dish. Perfect ratio between salty spam and mild rice. Slightly seaside flavor from the nori.

Spam is shoulder and ham

I buy ham hock terrine which is basically head cheese loaf except made from hocks, use it for making vietnamese sandwiches

"Scrapple" is a sausage-like combination of pork with seasonings. I made some from my hogs back in the '70s but didn't care for it that much. Bought some at the store some years ago, didn't care for that either.

The word "ham" is a bit fuzzy. It normally means the hind quarter of a hog, but it can be "fresh" or cured/smoked.

A picnic ham is the cured/smoked shoulder -- which is a cheaper cut than a rear ham.

My father used to make scrapple, liver pate and head cheese from scratch. The stuff he made was damn good and I got to see everything that was in it so I knew it was a-okay. I especially miss the scrapple he made, served with fried eggs.

On the other hand, my mother used to try to get us to eat spam. The trick only worked once but she kept trying.

Louie's mistake was ordering scrapple in the Detroit area.

Generally, I can't find scrapple around here. When we go to the South Jersey shore, it is part of the Philly area, and it is in every supermarket.

I had heard rumor that there have been so many Philly area snow-birds in FLA for so long, that supermarkets there have "Habbersett" scrapple in the freezer section. I found that hard to believe, but when we were there last year, I looked, and they were right!
