DALLAS - Dallas police are chasing a possibly armed assault suspect who allegedly fired at least one shot at the mother of his child last week.

The pursuit began in Dallas after officers attempted to serve the man a felony warrant at an address on Dixon Avenue.

According to investigators, the man driving the red sport utility vehicle may be armed and holding the woman hostage. Helicopter video showed a woman in the passenger seat of the SUV.

The pair is said to have a child who may also be inside the vehicle.

Police sources tell FOX 4 News that the man has called Mesquite police and told officers he wants to pull over but is afraid to do so.

The chase has wound through Dallas and Mesquite, down several roads, including Interstate 30, Highway 80 and C.F. Hawn Freeway.

It also crossed the newly-opened Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge connecting downtown to west Dallas

I am working near downtown today, we could hear the sirens and see all the helicopters. Glad to hear that it ended safely.
