I buy a lot from HF; but one needs to pay close attention to what they are buying. Not everything there is junk...

Wiki disagrees:
Piton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In climbing, a piton ( /ˈpiːtɒn/; also called a pin or peg) is a metal spike (usually steel) that is driven into a crack or seam in the rock with a hammer, and which acts as an anchor to protect the climber against the consequences of a fall, or to assist progress in aid climbing. Pitons are equipped with an eye hole or a ring to which a carabiner is attached; the carabiner can then be directly or indirectly attached (through more equipment) to a climbing rope.

No entry for peton at all. DID find an obscure French reference describing "peton" as "foot".

add welding helmets to that list. I was in there once and a dude was returning one. He was wearing sunglasses inside the store and did not look happy. Maybe he used a braising helmet instead?

I bought a gasoline powered auger there. It came with all fluids except gasoline already included and installed.

The very first time it was used, it started pumping out gear lube like it was going out of style. It had gone maybe two inches deep. It got brought back for exchange, as did the 2nd one, the 3rd one, etc. I ended up buying two so that our guys always had one functioning one at a time (plus they had a couple pairs of post hole diggers as back up). No need to purchase the extended warranty on any of them, because most failed well before the standard warranty period expired.

I bought something one time from HF and it was a damn good idea. I was going to floor my whole house with Pine so I bought their 50 buck airgun. It did my floor and two others before I lent it to someone who did not oil it. I would do that again. It is wise to consider some of their stuff if you are only wanting to do a few expensive projects.

They make some good wedges for dropping trees. I think that's the only thing I own from that store.

Me too. I bought a finish nailer there for $16. It's lasted five years, it's about toast, jams alot now but...who care's it was $16..!?

I bought a roofing nailer there for what Home Depot wanted to rent me one for three days, it worked flawlessly.

I've bought a lot of stuff there, mostly things I don't use often. Picked up some metal sawzall blades there once......as soon as they touched the tubing it stripped all the teeth off the blades, didn't even scratch the tubing.

I buy tools there. The ones I lend out and don't mind loosing or getting damaged.

It's a no return tool rental store.

Use it till it breaks and pitch it.

Never buy the $9 30-foot air hose made in India from HF/Bamboo tool central. That thing will herniate and rupture nearly on the first or second usage.

I got a few decent things from there- I even have a couple of made in USA items from 1995 or so when the place was still slightly less than 110% imported crap. Basically I double the price of most items- because you always have to get another one when the first one goes tits up.

Probably the same. Believe me when I tell you that China is sending us some of their better product. You should see what they sell in Chinese hardware/tool shops for their own market.
