I almost passed out when I saw this over the weekend. Diesel CHEAPER than regular!! :willy:

2 months ago at that same station, regular was $3.59 and Diesel was $3.95 (not sure what the other grades were).

I might have made the switch to the diesel truck at just the right time if this trend keeps up at all.

Sorry, I not putting a clanging/banging/rattling DIESEL in my vette, no matter if it has 1000 ft lbs at idle.....

Using my Kroger card, I earn 10¢ off a gallon of gas at the adjacent gas station for every $100 I spend at Kroger, so I bought a few more Jerry cans and I fill them up when I have that 50¢ discount, that gives me enough gas for the bike and the Manx for 6 weeks or so, enough to earn another 50¢. I haven't been to the gas station in a month now, got two cans left.

Probably gonna get a shock next time I go eh?

I'd love prices like that.
We are at $1.37litre.
Converted to a US gallon that's $5.19 gallon. If I was paying $1.05litre like you are I'd be partying.

Diesel at $4.09, Regular Unleaded at $3.71. That's $0.38 more expensive for the mathematically challenged like myself.

I don't know why anyone would want to own a diesel. They stink.

Plus, my half-ton gasser tows just fine. :coolest:

Drive a VW TDI Passat and see if you feel the same way. They burn cleaner than the gas cars, and they're whisper quiet. (and have torque and get 40mpg)

It's been a hotly contested topic here on the barn, I just figured he was trolling. :yesnod:

ENGINE TYPE: turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve diesel inline-4, iron block and aluminum head, direct fuel injection

Displacement: 1968 cc
Power (SAE net): 140 hp @ 4000 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 236 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm

Standing ¼-mile: 16.8 sec @ 83 mph

The gas mileage is certainly impressive, but I don't think you should bring up anything performance related as an argument for the new Passat.

(and I'm willing to bet Sea Six was referencing a certain past thread with his comment... )

I don't own a diesel car/truck so as a result i don't pay attention to diesel pricing.

Not this argument AGAIN... I really should have known better. :slap:

Do gas trucks have their advantages? Absolutely.

Do diesels? Absolutely.

Pick the one that best suits YOUR needs. Argument over. :D

I just sold a perfectly good 2011 TDI Golf. I have all my car money wrapped up into vettes so I had to make payments on it. Figured as long as I had to spend $300 a month for a shitbox, it may as well have 400 hp (2012 mustang for the same price).

Sure, the VW diesel was only costing 55% of what the mustang does in gas, but it is a lot more fun. I won't be losing sleep at night worrying about the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) failures anymore either (catastrophic $8000 repair).

Both of my two diesels I have owned have been complex and a little bit difficult to work on. I'm done with them for now. Have you seen the complexity of a diesel exhaust system lately- the VW had moving parts on the pipe.

:iagree: Same here. Crew cab dually 4x4 w/Duramax. 18 mpg isn't too bad for a truck that weighs about 8,000 lbs and can tow 23,000 lbs. Not making a debate over this, lol.

Diesel is down to 4.03 by me gas is somewhere around 3.70. Before I was getting 10 mpg in my old reg cab short box chevy now i can pull 18 easy with my tuned powerstroke crew cab. I'm fine with the slight cost increase.

I didn't bring up anything performance related. It's a 16 second car with 140hp. The point is that it's got a flat torque curve that's very nice for city driving.

AND, the gas mileage figures are underrated. I know two people with new ones that have repeatedly gotten mid to upper 30's in the city and up to *fifty* MPG (seriously) on the highway. Both get mid 40's on the highway all day long.

It's still $0.30 more than regular here. I just filled my truck for $170 yesterday. :(
