Very Cool! Awesome art work and very talented. But don't understand why all the crying?

The Ukrainians lost a LOT of their people during WWII, estimates between 7-10 million, or roughly 25% of their population, and not just the men, not just Jews. They still remember. The Ukraine lost more people than any other country, even Germany (6-7 million) and all the rest of Russia (6-8 million). By contrast, the US only lost an estimated 300,000. It's still fresh in their minds as it really wasn't that long ago. Almost everybody in that audience lost someone during the war, probably in their direct families too, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters.

The artist brought out those emotions by depicting the war in her art: The young man proposing on the bench but interrupted by the sirens, the young girl that receives the telegram, presumably telling her that her husband was killed, and her transformation into the old woman still holding the envelope, the church where the war dead were buried, the girl and her son waving to the sailor/dad going off to war in the window.
