I use SearchTempest - All of craigslist. One Search. (http://www.searchtempest.com/) to search Craigslist for items. Since I wanted a better drill press, I found an ad for a yard sale that included "drill press". No description or price listed. I emailed and asked about the drill press. The guy replied it was his neighbors and he'd need to get the info. I asked brand, chuck size and what was the lowest RPM.
Craftsman model 137.229170 which is a 17" , 16 speed ( 200 rpm slow speed ) , 5/8" chuck and it's a floor model. The current model lists for $620 but is only 3/4 hp.

This works nice, those two pieces of 1/4" steel have eight 33/64" holes ( just over 1/2" ) and took about 45 minutes to do on my little drill press. I just did those in 15 minutes :hurray:
Plus I'll be able to drill bigger holes in steel now to fabricate even more parts :seasix:

Have one very similar to that, but it's about 15 yrs old.
Only weak point about it was the chuck it came with. Wouldn't grip anything. Replaced with a 5/8" Jacob's super chuck. :seasix:

I grabbed a 1/2" J33 Jacobs Chuck off ebay for my 1/2" drill press. ( $26 shipped--not too bad for a $85 chuck :D )
This will be getting a Jacobs ball bearing chuck in the future :seasix:
This one is in great condition other thah some saw dust all over it
Now I'll work it for real in steel :hurray:

It was a steal at that price :yesnod: belts look brand new and no bad marks in the table either ( no "ring of shame" from drilling into the table :slap: )

I wish I had one of those when I built my speakers years ago. I burned out the motor 1/4 way through cutting out 300 - 3" holes in 1" MDF.
Had to use the drill and clamps for the rest.
