Danica Patrick doesn’t have children, so when she talks about her life away from the racetrack, it often relates to fashion or cooking or wine.
Now she can talk about sports—as well as fashion—in a way that most parents can relate. She is sponsoring a youth softball team.
It all started with Patrick’s 8-year-old niece, who has an interest in athletics.
While some aunts get asked to buy Girl Scout cookies, Patrick recently got a different request from Kendall, who asked in a somewhat shy voice:
“Aunt Danica, would you be willing to sponsor my softball team?”
Patrick’s answer? “Of course.”
The request included new uniforms. Patrick’s niece is a pitcher, and when she goes out to the mound, she has to look good.
So Kendall and her teammates have new uniforms and call themselves “The Green Machine” thanks to Patrick’s recent purchase of uniforms that sport the green of her GoDaddy-sponsored racecar.
“They needed uniforms and I’m happy to do it,” said Patrick, who is running her first full season in NASCAR this year, racing in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series. “They went online and found some beautiful bright green shirts to replicate the GoDaddy look of my car and then they found these great checkered-flag socks.
“They look awesome. They’re the best looking team out there.”
