My first Vette was a '94 LT-1. LOVED that car. The ex-wife talked me into selling it because she hates Vettes (she calls them the "Car of the Devil"...just one reason why she's now my EX wife  ).

I never forgave her for making me sell and promised myself I'd have another C4 one day. So here it is...1994 ZR-1, 36K miles. Mint condition. I just picked it up today and am driving back from LA to Texas.

I'll be here a lot asking questions! :cert:

Congrats on your ZR-1. Mike100 has a ZR1, he has done some wrenching to the LT5, C5 brakes, Hurst shifter, and more. I can help with all other issues within the frame, suspension, ZF and differential.

When are you going to lower it?

I was going to ask what you most current vette is was before this one..the LT1 car or newer?

Had you driven one before or just decide to go for it? The 94-96 interiors are the best- the trip will probably be pretty comfy.

Thanks for all the compliments. I paid $26K and it's in mint condition. The ZR-1 registry is where I found it and I had never driven one but just knew it's what I wanted.

I'll post more after I get home as I forgot my laptop :ack/

For WW, to the tune "Thank God I'm a Country Boy (I didn't write it but it's good)

Well Orthodox life can be kinda intense
200 days of fasting don’t make no sense
And 3-hour services can give you shin splints
But thank God I’m an Orthodox

By the end of Holy Saturday my back and feet hurt
It’s been over forty days since I had dessert
And my priest is pretty masculine but wears a black skirt
Thank God I’m an Orthodox

(Chorus)
Well I got me a prayer rope with 50 knots on it
And I know 50 words or more in Greek and Slavonic
My hatred of peanut butter’s gettin’ kinda chronic
Thank God I’m an Orthodox

Well the babas teach the converts what to do and where to stand
And they teach you when to cross yourself and how to hold your hand
And to soften candle bottoms ‘fore you stick ‘em in the sand
Thank God I’m an Orthodox

(repeat Chorus (change “peanut butter’s” to “tofu is”))

Well I’ve got a hundred icons in the corner in my home
St Vladimir’s Press is on the speed dial in my phone
And skete dot com’s the homepage on my laptop’s Google Chroooooome
Woo, thank God I’m an Orthodox, yeah!

(repeat Chorus (change “tofu is” to “shrimp is”))

Man...I thought they hijacked threads badly in OT.

OK, so I'm home and happy to be back. Only a few issues came up while driving:

1) Turn signal flashers don't blink consistently. Speeds up and slows down.

2) When I pushed "AUTO" on the climate control to turn it off, it wouldn't turn back on for a few minutes with me pushing the button.

3) Rear end noise. Was not loud at all when I left LA but significant now. I don't believe it has ever been serviced. I'm thinking wheel or carrier bearing.

Very thrilled to have the car and be back in a C4...but holy begeezus belt it's HARD to get in and out of...I don't remember it being THIS hard 10 years ago...

1. Bulb or socket with flaky connection, which is changing the load on the flasher. If all are good, the flasher itself.

2. Welcome to the club. Mine has two positions....hot and cold. Nothing in between. The control head itself is likely going bad, but clean all the connections before buying anything.

3. Check wheel bearing hubs for play at 9 & 3 O'clock, and 12 & 6. Also check all 6 U-joints....these make one hell of a drone when they're giving up....and it gets worse quickly. Rear end is unlikely....Dana 44 is tough as nails.

OK...so when I'm at a stop light, turn signal on, I apply a little throttle and it speeds up...let off...slows down.

You are lucky to have the later instrument package...the early ones don't get digital oil and water readouts. I think sending units are still available- at least for oil pressure anyways. On my old 95 coupe, I always left it on oil temp.

don't know about the turn signal thing- sounds like a voltage regulation problem, but I'd just try a new flasher.

I had a Millenium Yellow 2001 Coupe for a few years. Now I have a 2010 Cyber Gray Grand Sport. I never drove a ZR-1, but I knew I wanted one and wasn't disappointed.

The first thing I noticed about the trip was how comfortable the seats are. That is, once you actually get in the car. Better than my '10 to be honest.

When I was on the way out of El Paso, some Infiniti decided to come up on my rear. I turned the key to full and downshifted into 4th. I was blown away by how fast that car became a speck in my mirror. Gobs of power. A nice, linear curve...not the neck-snapping force that my '10 has.

Yes.

Inch up on 90 and they will cite you. And while some are courteous, most Texas DPS aren't known for their pleasant demeanors.

When we did the Fiero trip to San Antonio in 2010, we ran past a parked TDPS without raising his attention at about 85 somewhere near Ozona. One did stop me (and issue just a warning) for no front plate about 50 miles out of El Paso. The dude was probably 28 and looked 17. I was tempted to ask him if his momma knew he was playing policeman, but thought better of it. :leaving:

He was more interested in two Fieros buzzing down I-10 in the middle of nowhere than anything. He wasn't even really sure what the car was. We spent 30 seconds discussing my lack of a front plate, and 5 minutes talking about the car. I told him the last one rolled off the line when he was still in diapers. He got a kick out of that.

There is a 500 mile stretch of Interstate 10 from East El Paso County to Kerrville, Tx that is marked 80 mph speed limit.

I loved that stretch of road long before the speed limit was raised to 80. I need to revisit it...:D

I lived in Odessa from 80 to 96. Very familiar with that stretch. I don't care for the night time slow down though. I just got back from Tucson again and had the cruise control set to 80 almost the whole way. AZ, NM and TX were all 75 but OK is still behind at 70. Friz, I was going to drop you a note to try to get together but we came through Deming at 1:00 am last Sat and no time yesterday coming home.
