So anyway, getting back on-topic in off topic, as WOEII said in his grown-up reply, the last couple of months I've noticed if I click on a thread, it takes almost a minute for the thread to open.

There is a sticky in the National Events section which starts the thread with all kinds of excuses for failure of recent Cruise Ins.
It even goes so far to say the NCM itself, would prefer CI was held somewhere other than BG.
Apparently, a group of Corvette enthusiasts attending an annual event is too much effort fot NCM's overworked staff to deal with. Hmmm...

I agree with you in regards to your post. Mirroredshades stirred the pot a little more than that by saying that cf has chosen to not support the event.
I expected that posting a link to the events page with a prod to dig a little deeper would be subtle enough to last a while. Blatantly mentioning Vette Barn, or linking to the Barn Raising page, is just asking for drama.
Mirroredshades
03-17-2012, 5:39pm

In all seriousness, I hope this thread is allowed to stay. I have seen some of the posts on this topic, specifically in the National Events section, removed.
I realize that this is a touchy subject over here, since CF is not a part of it this year, but this is not a case of trying to stir the pot. People are going to ask about CI because it was a very fun event. Is it not reasonable to tell them of the alternate NCM event planned in its absence?
CF has supported/does support the NCM. I cannot imagine that we are allowed to talk about all other NCM sponsored events, except for the barn raising. That would be a very inconsistent application of forum rules.
For the sake of saving some of the commraderie built over the years during memorial weekends, can we not just let this thread remain? It's a discussion on a NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM sponsored event. We're on a CORVETTE forum. All the rest of the animosity is just ridiculous and trifle.

I hope it remains, as long as no one mentions Vette Barn directly, it might. I'm seriously NOT trying to stir the pot. It would just be nice to see some people from the past. I specifically worded that post to make sure it was noted as an NCM event, leaving out anything about VB.
We're not trying to promote this site, contrary to what was written when the other thread was closed. Just trying to let people know that there is still a CORVETTE event that weekend in BG...hosted by the NCM. It's a flippin' corvette forum, for crying out loud. If I had posted a link to threads here at VB, I could see it as being an issue. The only link posted was to the 2012 NCM event page...I didn't even link directly to the BRII event...just to the NCM yearly event page.
The only people over there perpetuating and dragging out the "controversy" is the CF mods themselves. It's so ridiculous. Let it go already.

WIth my setup I could easily seat/cook/feed/drinks 350 CF members with electricity, lighting, enclosed large canopies at a race track setting for a day of events.
At this point it comes down to wanting to help. Honestly after being ignored completely I would not help you guys throw this event if it was in my backyard.
Best of luck to you guys to save this event.

No, no trouble. PM'ed savewave and asked him why my post was removed. He wasnt a jerk in his answer or anything, but it was just nonsense. I'm not going to even gt into it with him/them. It's just not worth my time to try and point out hypocrisy to people who will just...never...get it. Nor will they ever get over it.
Sad, really. Their efforts to block any mention of the weekend hurts the NCM, ultimately.

Well it's pretty common knowledge (and was proven by Joecooool) that CF has never been a friend to the NCM...so that shouldn't come as a surprise.

And this surprises you how?
I'm not surprised. Its simply amusing. Actually, I take that back. I'm surprised that they're surprised that people are asking about a CF CI for 2012. :willy:
Not sure how much background you know...
Its especially amusing when you consider that they (CF) started a sticky thread (last summer) asking for ideas for the 2012 CI. Did they think people wouldn't wonder what happened?
Coincidentally, that sticky thread was started four days after IC learned/announced (here) that the NCM had decided to host VB on memorial day weekend, rather than CF. The main premise of the CF sticky thread? They needed ideas because the NCM "suggested" that CF change location for their 2012 CI. You don't say?
In the end, IDGAF if they take down my posts based on the fact that they perceive that I'm promoting another site. (Their words.) I'm not promoting another site, I simply wanted to let people know about the event. WTF cares which vette forum is being hosted? I just want to make sure my/our friends are aware that there is an NCM event that weekend that they can attend.
Wait... I kinda like the tin foil hat theory that I'm promoting this site, though. It's suggestive of some sort of evil, master plan. Muahahahaha.

And fromt he first page where I think I started to hit home ont he real reason for the decline in CI....
I really wanted to attend aat least one CI, but over the past couple of years attendance and interest has waned (SP?) so much that I lsot interest. Well, add the fact that people I interacted with most on the forum are no longer participants and one can see why I chose not to make the 15+ hour drive.
Say whatever you want about my post, censor it, ban me, whatever... but if I can't hang out and have a good time with my friends I'm simply not going to waste the time and money.
No need crying over spilt milk. Sorry it didn't work for you to come in previous years. My experience has been that I've met some new friends at each CI I've attended.
In all honesty, I'm not crying over spilled milk here, but merely stating the facts about why I chose not to attend, though I wish I could have. I really wish i could have attended in 2009, but the event took place a few weeks before I redeployed. I absolutely wanted to show up and give out hand shakes to all who helped support my Brigade via care packages and words of encouragement.
Unfortunately, there are those who share my current sentiments, and no, I'm not talking about people banished to other areas of the internet. They wouldn't come out for other reasons that we need not get into.
enough about this.... on to the topic at hand.

Not sure how much background you know...
What's terrifically amusing is whenever a person or an organization tries to cover up or downplay an embarrassing event, they almost inevitably wind up with more egg on their face and less respect that if they had just been honest in the first place.
A few more details: The NCM looked at CI-XII and the consistently dwindling numbers and told Corvette Forum that they couldn't support an event with such small participation. CF, realizing that the days of 400 people at a Cruise-In were long since over, released the date. I had already been in discussions with the NCM, so the writing was on the wall that we were in line for the event. CF has been pretty much out of the picture since August and no amount of postulating in any thread they created was going to change that.
Of course, you have CF apologists such as XtremeVette who first came to VB and try to do damage control on behalf of CF. When that became a dead-end, he went into bloatwave's thread and started spreading misinformation (e.g. "NO event have been adopted to replace CorvetteForum cruise in" four months after we announced that we had the date). Six months and six posts later it was "Well said and I agree" even though no one really said anything except that Cruise-In was dead. I guess he finally figured out that the event was toast because all of a sudden he began trying to paint a picture that he's had better things to do that weekend for a few years even though he's attended 3 of the last 4 Cruise-Ins. Riiiight.
You also have to understand the mentality of who it is you're dealing with. Savewave is a former newspaper editor, so spinning a story to suit the facts as he sees them is second nature to him. Pewter and the rest...even Jesse...are little more than lap dogs that fall in lock-step with savewave's whims.
I hate to break it to them, but it's going to take a lot more than a set of O.Z. Wheels to resurrect this event. Their whole mindset has to change, and I just don't see that happening as long as those running CF are still in place.

Well said, IC !
Your post has answered something which has bothered me for a while.
I was told that it was NCM deciding CF CI was "too much work to be bothered with, therefore take it elsewhere". I didn't understand how or why a Corvette event would be snubbed by a Corvette Museum.
Now that the TRUTH is known, the entire picture has changed.
Maybe I'll become an NCM member, after all.

After going to nine Cruise-In's in a row, I can say for a fact that the last CI I attended was pathetic at best.
The parking lot at the hotel looked like the day after the CI ended.
I'm just tired of all the lying and manipulation at CF and will never attend another CF event.
That being said, I'm really bummed that I can't make BRII :(

The National Corvette Museum is a worthy organization and you won't find a group that's more dedicated to the Corvette and furthering the hobby. They have been used by, and getting the short shrift from CF at the expense of other charities for far too long. One of the first decisions we made here at VB was to support the NCM.
But as we've said many times here, donating to an organization is a very personal issue. It isn't our place to dictate where your charity dollars are spent, nor is it our place to stifle your support another charity.
They NCM is a great group to work with, and there is absolutely no way that they would send a Corvette organization packing. Cruise-In was CF's event to lose, plain and simple. No amount of spin on the part of CF will change that.

Agreed. We went to 2 and there was a big difference between those 2 events. One of the biggest disappointments was when the track event went from just a CI Event to an open event. Don't get me wrong, I was amused at watching snowmobiles being raced on asphalt but would have rather seen our friends run more trials.
Most of all, I miss the people. The old and the chance to meet new people.

Ever since Jesse started promoting St. Judes, especially at Cruise In, the relationship between Corvette Forum and the NCM has deteriorated.

Correct.
And there were several PM conversations between Jesse and Joecooool where Jesse said that he was shoving aside NCM and everything else for St. Judes. Jesse then went in to Phil's account and deleted the PM's, but Phil, being a whole lot smarter than Jesse, saved the Emails to his hard drive.
I'm sure Phil would love to reprint them if you asked him.

I remember when datawiz and I offered up the Z's to auto-x at CI. I had to fight Jim and Jesse tooth and nail to get the money to go the NCM.
My logic was simple, we were the ones donating the cars, we should decide where the money goes. When one of the winners dropped out and we put my car back up for auction I was "told" where the funds would go. That was when I gave up on CF.
