A planned emergency evacuation of the House Rayburn Office Building this morning was nixed when officials had a real emergency on their hands: a stinky childcare center in the neighboring Ford House Office Building.

Officials said that a "suspicious odor" was sniffed out in the childcare area and the office was evacuated this morning. They added that nothing dangerous turned up.

But one official didn't dispute the leading suspect: stinky diapers. "Could have been," the official said.

And upon getting a note about the evacuation, a top House aide added, "the first thing that jumped out in my mind was someone forgot to empty the diaper genie!"
