We currently have USAA and I am ready to dump them. They just jacked our rates up $400 a year for nothing, no claims, tickets or anything in the past 10 years.
Anyone had USAA and switched to someone else? I checked GEICO and with the Navy Federal Credit Union discount it is about half the cost for what looks like the same coverage.

I know Stangkiller had switched from USAA but didn't catch who he switched to.

Thanks,
:)

After my inlaws rolled their truck, and they received the exact same service that Karen received I highly recommend everybody with USAA consider shopping insurance a bit. We've actually been considering filing a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance. Several of Karens medical bills are STILL not paid, and it's been since October.

I went to Farmers. My new Agent is surprise surprise a Corvette owner, and very helpful during the switch. Every time there's been an issue or question, even though his office staff would be able to answer the question, he's been very quick to follow up himself.

The rate he got me on my house and car were very competitive. I was also recommended to talk to Allstate, who's rate was almost as good as Farmers, but I found the actual agent was a bit more difficult to get a hold of.

Good luck!

I dumped USAA in 2004 when Geico became cheaper. In February, I finally dumped Geico as Esurance was a whopping 45% cheaper. If you didn't know, Esurance is now owned by Allstate which eased my mind.

I saw that on TV. I am wondering if Esurance is worth the switch. Do they also do Home Owners stuff?

I have USAA and I have shopped around but can't seem to get anything any cheaper. We have 3 vehicles and a House with them.

I have all my vehicles and home with State Farm. Their claims dept is very good to deal with, and no issues like Stangkiller had with payments for claims. However, I pay them a freaking fortune. Thinking about shopping around for something better priced, but don't want to give up good service in the bargain.

When I left USAA I saved damn near 30% I think they have serious discounts for active duty, that keep them competitive. Honestly USAA could not have treated us more like a cut rate insurance company. After their treatment of Karen, I plan to stay with the cheapest rate and just expect bad service. It's a disappointing thought, but USAA claims to be the best, and honestly if that's the best, then what's the point of even having insurance.

Just checked Esurance. The auto price seems to be about $1200 a year cheaper than USAA, but swapping will increase my home owners by $217 er year. Still a win of $1000 a year. Need to verify all coverage limits before I swap, but it looks promising.:dance:

I did a little online quoting and so far:
GEICO is almost half of USAA with the same coverage.
State Farm is only $100 less without checking on homeowners.
Farmers is almost the same price
Didn't check eSurance but Allstate burnt me years ago so I tend to shy away from them. My rates kept going up with Allstate and when I questioned the rep I got the canned, "Uninsured Motorists are expensive" crap. I dropped them and went with USAA and until the this year it hasn't been too bad. To have a $400 a year jump in insurance with no claims and a clean driving record, well I guess they don't want to keep customers.

Has anyone used Liberty Mutual for their homeowners? Geico looks like they are teamed up with them and you get a discount on both.

I have had USAA for about 15 years. I have had tickets, wrecks etc and no rate increases. Its strange, as everyone has different issues etc. I could play the insurance shuffle game but I pay 200 per car every six months. i have a Corvette(93), CR-V(01), Corolla(02) and Civic(00), all full coverage except civic.. Mileage, records, area, coverage, deductible,, garage, no garage, theft in area, etc. I think the variables play a huge in price.

dropped USAA after more than 20 years. They just weren't a good deal anymore. I think they decided to broaden their eligible customer base, and therefore their risk...which all the good paying, non-crashing customers underwrite.

let somebody else pay.

Geico does not pay claims. The company I went with only does business in CA, OR, and Canada.

Has anyone here with Esurance filed a claim?

I've been very happy with Nationwide. My agent is the best, she's goes above and beyond, but that's more her than the company. I've never had claim issues though. Have my house and cars with them.

Define a fortune....I curious on the specifics because i have state farm as well. I'm thinking that i could get cheaper rates, but i'm not sure about the service i would get.

I have 3 cars, 2 snowmobiles and my house with them.

We have Allstate and so far, so good. Our agent is friendly, responsive, and handles all my calls and inquiries promptly and professionally.

Liberty Mutual... They beat the rates of everyone we tried. Of course, my wife's tickets didn't help much.

Esurance Ratings, Reviews, and Complaints (http://www.automobileinsurancereview.com/esurance-insurance/reviews/)

They do not seem to rank favorably by their customers.

A regional carrier active in the NE region, is Erie Ins. Co......

and they gave me excellent rates for over 20 years up there, auto, homeowners, business, cat liability, the works.....

I used to pay only ~600/year for the vette, the goat, and the work truck....

down here in Florida my wife is stuck with 600/year on a '99 Escort....

stupid high prices....

Spoke with a State Farm agent today. Looks like I can save $600 a year on the cars with better coverage and $500 a year on the house with the same coverage.
I called USAA and the agent wouldn't budge on trying to lower the rates. They claim all that went up was the M3. He offered to look at the insurance and see about adjusting the deductibles and also look at the mileage and adjust the rates for it. I just laughed and explained why would I want to keep paying these guys for less coverage with more of a deductible?
I'll be reviewing some numbers tonight and will probably be switching over to State Farm.

:banghead: Karens accident was in OCTOBER, I just received ANOTHER unpaid ER bill, along with a rejection of payment from USAA...the description says motorvehicle accident...but the rejection reason was it didn't apply to a motorvehicle accident. WTF I don't think USAA even has people reviewing these claims anymore. I'm so disappointed with this company it's not even funny.

No problem on the thread. I am thoroughly disappointed with USAA. After being with them 21 years and all they could offer was upping my deductibles to keep the cost down.

I agree with an earlier post, they let all the Armed Forces in and the young not skilled drivers are killing all of us older good drivers. We seem to be the ones paying the cost of having all pay grades open for enrollment.

I got the good run around with the homeowners insurance also. I found out they jacked my rates again this year, almost $200 more than last year. I pay triple for home owners as to what I pay on taxes each year. The hell with it.

Been with LM since 1970, started with them as renter insurance. Bought our first home in 76 and used them for home owners insurance. Had a camp for 25 years also used LM for them. Tore the camp down in 04 and built our present house at the lake ,yep LM insurance. Had a couple claims over the years and all went smooth. Almost forgot our boat had LM insurance!

We also use LM for our autos, been with them for a long time now. Been treated fairly!
