I really need everyones help...

Heres the situation. I daily drive a 93 S10 pickup. It runs good. BUT! Its 2wd. and needs a LITTLE work.... also.... It has NO PAINT. Its rattle can black....

http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/401490_10150575299169655_516434654_8778073_263579219_n.jpg

The dilema.... I sold my ex girlfriend my 97 blazer 3 years ago. Modded. 4x4 2dr. Mint. Since shes had it, its been used... A LOT but not neglected. Its a solid vehicle. I just bought it back from her for practically nothing... Im talking dollars an cents. BUT, she rear ended someone. NOTHING mechanical. Only sheet metal. SO!

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/drmrman/blazerbeat.jpg

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/drmrman/blazerbeat2.jpg

The question is. Do I flip the blazer, make some money, and keep my S10, or spend some time and money with the blazer and make it a decent daily driver!?!?!?!

Im torn.

What my baby used to look like.........

If you're up to a project, it doesn't look like too much work. It depends on what your photos don't show. If you're in it cheap, that's where I would spend my money.

Photos show everything.... I pulled the core support out tonight.... NO frame damage. Drove the truck for 20 mins. runs and drives just as I remember it. Just needs a grille fender and hood.

I think Im going to try and bring the Blazer back.

I have NO hookups in the paint and body field, but I might be tempted to try to fix the newer truck.

drmrman
03-07-2012, 10:29pm
I do... and I dont... my shop does a lot of biz with a local body shop. But im not 100% sure what kind of deal he would do for me...

Im going to get the truck registered and bring it by him this weekend. I spoke to my pops and he said i can keep the truck at the house. So I can keep it local :D right now its at my buddys yard 30 mins away...

mike100
03-07-2012, 10:51pm
Is it even a possibility to sell the S10 to fund the bodywork? That way you don't have to do hardly any work and you get a clean ride at the end of the project.

drmrman
03-07-2012, 11:36pm
Right now that's the thought process. The s10 is for sale. Asking 2500. So if anyone knows anyone on the east coast that wants a clean s10 let me know!

Miss my blazer. Would def. Be cool to bring it back to where it was when I sold it...

If there isn't structural damage, I vote to rehab the Blazer. :yesnod:

drmrman
03-07-2012, 11:48pm
No structural damage. Frame is straight as an arrow. The core support got pushed back about 1/2 inch but I already pulled it back to spec tonight :) nothing a telephone pole and ratchet strap couldn't fix :D like I said looks like it's ONLY going to be a fender, hood, bumper, grille, and if you want to get fancy a battery tray and head light bucket. Im no body guy but my professional opinion is that I think I can get this fixed for less then 1200... Hopefully....

The Blazer.

They have LS conversions for those rigs. They converted one on Horsepower TV and looked pretty cool.

I would have to agree with everyone also. Go with the Blazer. Nice looking rig! There is a company that makes sheet metal for a lot of cars called Certi-fit. Their prices are usually very competitive if you can't find used parts. BUT, the quality is not OE. The sheet metal can be thinner for example.

Alright! Uploaded pics from last night that i took with a real camera. Not a cell phone camera.

Things shes done since Ive had the truck that I cant stand but Ill have to deal with for now. Bed liner below the body line. Was done well but I think it looks like crap. I think the all red looked nice.

Replaced the awesome tires I had with those junk BFG's AND the white walls are out... Ugly.

Removed the roof rack lights grrr :x

Painted the chevy emblem in the steering wheel (should be able to get it out with some brake clean.

DESTROYED the drivers side inner door panel. I mean. It most likely needs to be replaced.

She slammed the back glass and shattered it. She had it replaced but it doesnt seem to be sitting in the latch properly so I will have to adjust that.

Umm... theres a bunch more but Ill have to get into it this weekend.

Good stuff. New drive shaft U joints, heater core was just replaced, front end was done about 20k miles ago. (including ball joints and steering components.) Tires have about 70% tread life.

Pics!

Put plates on the truck and took it to my body guy. Says he's got a friend that's really slow right now but does good work and that he should be coming by the shop this week. So I'm going to leave the truck there for the week and see how much they say!

He also said he's got a totaled out 4dr blazer that he can give me the front clip parts over for cheap!!!!!! Woooo! This is coming together nicely!!!! :)

OKAY! little up date from this weekend.

Fixed the drivers door window motor and regulator.

Cleaned all the glass because it had the "smokers haze" on the inside... Yuck.

Began to clean the rest of the inside of the truck but realized that if its going for paint. Its going to be a mess. So Ill just finish cleaning after!

And the biggest news! I went to "Harry's YOU PULL IT!" In hazelton PA today and picked up 95% of the sheet metal I need to fix the truck :D

I looked at the wheels, and NONE of the rims have out side weights, not even stick on weights on the inside. So they were improperly "static" balanced. So Ill through them on the balancer some time this week at work and hopefully itll ride like a caddy again :D

So I had the truck on the lift today to balance the tires........................

NONE of the wheels were balanced. NOT EVEN STATIC BALANCED. The reason why the truck felt like it was going to shake apart at 50+mph was because one wheel was 4.75 ounces off on the inside and 3.50 ounces off on the outside.

The LACK of effort and the intentional "jewing" on repairs to this truck is just rediculous. Oh well thats why Ive got it back... So that I can fix her up and bring her back to perfect again! :datawiz:

Sounds like you're getting there...:cert:
So how did it ride after you balanced them?

Like a blazer with LT tires, cranked torsion bars and an add-a-leaf should ride... HARD. but no vibrations :D HAHAH!

Well... Its official! :D Its done!!!!!

Masked off! (3m masking tape is FRIGGEN expensive....) I used textured Herculiner roll on bed coating. This stuff is nice. Ive used it on another one of my S10's and I had a good experience with it. So I tried it again. I think it came out great! I also like that its shiney... A lot of the other bed coatings are dull or flat!
