Whole House Generator.
if you remember a few years ago; I made and installed a 7.5kw continous (10kw max) gasoline generator (with the plan to eventually convert it to propane) to run parts of the house when the electricity is out:

I recently was at a home - where a guy was selling-out his ham radio gear; the guy was losing his house (foreclosure). Out in his yard was a Guardian (Generac) whole house generator. I asked if he could sell it; he replied "why couldn't I ?"
I mentioned that you can't sell home items - that are considered a "permanent" part of the house. The guy said it was never installed; still sitting on the wood delivery crate; although he had a propane tank connected to it. He showed me the invoice; he bought it 6 years ago from Lowes for $2700 without installation. All it had done was run the monthly maintenance cycle; about an hour/month, for the past 6 years.
Other than the crappy looking outer enclusore (Generacs are known for marginal quality on the cosmetic exterior panels)... the thing looked brand new on the inside.
Bought it for $900, and got it installed & running today:

it's rated 12kw continous, 16kw max.
Anyways, finished the install today; it fired right up... did a 2 hr test run; and then I changed the oil & filter.
Sold my original generator for $600; and sat the newer one on the same cement pad I poured for the original generator.
