View Full Version : {MERGED} Roll Call for Gas and Diesel prices...

This is crazy shit my friends. I filled up last Saturday as I had to head on down to San Diego to visit my mom. I paid just a hair over $4/gal. Today, its $4.55 at my local Chevron. The Shell and others are the same. Hell, even the local Spirit gas station, which normally is 0.25 cents below Chevron, is at the same price. WTF?

Damn price is increasing 5-10 cents every day. Glad I carpool to work, but still this is ridiculous. Hard to budget your money with these see-saw prices. Anyone feeling the pain?

I'm staying drunk so I don't care right now.

My solution is to either make more money or to buy a girl's car...like a 2.5l Porsche boxster...this would be in violation of my 400hp and up rule, but it would be at least parked on the street.

But for real, this is bs...we are within 10 cents of the peak prices we had in 2009 when oil was $140 a bbl and it is only $109 right now...WTF? There isn't any good investments right now so I think speculators are jacking the market on commodities again.

I just put the top end back on my ZR again...cost $58 to top up the tank after my test drive...I think I spent $120 topping up all my cars...if it goes over $5 I guess I'll either buy that small engine shitbox, rob a bank or sell blood and sperm to make ends meet.

Don't know about diesel. My wife just bought a new Hyundai Tuscon that gets 32 MPG (Yes, I'm married to a ricer). Thought I had her talked into a SHO, but changed her mind. Oh well, flame away......................

I too am on board with the small, efficient DD approach. :D

Try it.

Texas fought for and won it's independence once. We can damn sure do it again. We can secede tomorrow if we so choose. We have farming, oil, deep water ports, manufacturing, and our own built in militia. We WILL NOT give up our guns under any circumstances. We will put Balack Osama and his regime of idiots wherever we need to put them to accomplish that.

I suspect Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho, and the Dakotas will follow suit immediately. The result will be civil war, and the good guys WILL win. We have no choice but to win. The only option for Washington would be nukes, and guess what....we have those too. We will burn this mother to the ground before we will give up our guns and freedom and lay down for this socialist monster.

According to Yahoo, this is why gas prices are up:

1. Volatility in the Middle East
2. Growing demand from Asia
3. Gasoline formulation requirements
4. An improving economy
5. Summer
6. Taxes

The biggest one sited is:
Growing demand from Asia. The Department of Energy reported that the United States became a net exporter of oil for the first time since 1949 last year. But if we have all this "extra" oil to be exporting, why are prices at home still going up?

A lot of it has to do with demand for gasoline, which has been declining in the United States for the last 10 years, while shooting up by leaps and bounds in places such as Asia and South America. As demand has tapered of here due to more fuel-efficient vehicles and, more recently, the weak economy, oil companies have had to broaden the scope of potential markets--bad news for American consumers.

"Oil companies that have increased their exports overseas essentially are depleting the U.S. supply [and] in doing so it's creating an artificially higher price for American consumers," Laskoski says. "When consumer demand is weak [in the United States], it's a very attractive option to export and get those healthier profit margins."

That trend isn't likely to change with a burgeoning middle class in Asian economic powerhouses such as China. According to the EIA, Asia surpassed North America as the largest petroleum-consuming region in 2008, gobbling up 25 million barrels a day in 2010.

Gasoline formulation requirements. Although crude oil prices account for the lion's share of what consumers pay at the pump, the process of refining crude oil and making the right formulations to produce gasoline costs money--about 7 percent of the price Americans pay per gallon.

Prices head even higher going into the summer months because refiners have to transition from a winter blend--required by law between Oct. 1 and April 30--to a more eco-friendly--but more expensive--summer blend.

"[The summer blend] has additional additives that add to the cost of producing the product," Laskoski says. "Not only do the refineries have to go through the process of ramping up production for it, but they're doing this at a time of year when consumer demand is starting to increase. This is one of the key reasons why the United States sees this cyclical up and down trend every year."

Specific state requirements can tack on even more expense for refiners and ultimately consumers.

Sometime during this time period they also took away being able to deduct your credit card, loan, or car payment interest from your income taxes. The money then became taxed twice, you were taxed and the bank that made the money was taxed on the same money. :shots:

I got a ride in a 30 ft V-hull lake boat with twin 502 chevy BB's at 600 hp ea. we came out of the water about 3 feet at almost 90 mph when we touched a wake in the middle of Lake Elsinore. Bad ass, but a huge accident waiting to happen.

Boat insurance is affordable until you get one that can go over 70 mph...then you better be rich.

Previous truck:

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p90/botch1980/Race%20Car/VIR%20TrackDaze%202010/IMG_4009.jpg

2010 GMC 2500 6.0L Gas

12.3 MPG (what I averaged over 27,000 miles)

20,000 miles/year (my average) @ $3.99/gallon = $6487.80

New truck:

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p90/botch1980/2012-04-09_20-09-03_132.jpg

2012 GMC 3500 Denali HD 6.6L Turbo diesel

17.1 MPG (what I have seen so far)

20,000 miles/year @ $3.92/gallon = $4584.79

Not too shabby considering it weighs ~2,000lbs more and can tow a f**king house!

Although I do admit that I absolutely LOVED that silver truck.
