Have a 25-30ft that blew over. Not a big deal but i need to get rid of the branches with leaves as well as some old rotted firewood crom the previous owner.. Any suggestions? Been looking for an ad on craigslist for a bit but no luck. Don't want to call a tree company as i will be sectioning it up myself for firewood for next winter..
Any suggestions for an inexpensive way to get this shit gone?:waiting:

1. Pile all the stuff up.
2. Ignite.
Gasoline and a match. :yesnod:
I'm assuming you are within city limits and outdoor burning is not permitted?

I can probably burn if i notify the fire dept but the area where it is there is a chance other stuff will go up. Aside from that its a perfectly health tree that got blown down so its not like its dead and dry and will burn.. The old logs are all rodded out too so those won't burn either.. I'm trying to find a guy with a chipper. I looked into renting one but they are $150+ which seems high to me.

Rent a beaver.

Our city will come pick that stuff up for a small fee. Turn it in to mulch and resell it. Look into it with your city/county?

He needs his trees cleaned up, not his pole. Oh wait.... :leaving:
OK, then. In that case, inexpensive is going to also mean inconvenient, unless:
Does your burg have any sort of "heavy trash pickup?" The City of Houston, for example, sends trucks with grappling hooks and they will pick up virtually anything someone can push, pull, or drag to the curb once a month.
My little hamlet doesn't do that, however. Instead, they take yard waste if it is cut and tied in 4' bundles that don't weigh more than 50 lbs. If your city is more like mine, how much time ya got?
If your city does indeed have a yard waste truck that goes around, you could try meeting and "tipping" the crew when they go by your house to help you chunk all the debris, even if it may not meet the size or weight requirements. Of course, this still requires you to cut up and drag the stuff to the curb prior to pickup day.

Post a Craigslist ad with bold letters FREE MULCH!
In the fine print, tell them they supply the chipper, you supply the branches. I'll bet somebody will rent the chipper and show up.

I think U-Haul will rent a pickup for something like $30 a day. Haul it to the dump.

I would think the house flipping company could buy a chipper for the business.

The old heave-ho into the neighbor's yard.
erect large sign: firewood for sale, you cut and haul. someone's bound to steal it without paying. problem solved.

I picked up this chipper for $225 ( used ) at the local Western Auto /small engine repair. Handles up to about 3" limbs and whatever fits in the top. Powered by a 8 hp Briggs and Stratton

Get a professional to do it, and let them do the heavy chainsaw work also. It will cost multiples of that amount, and it will be worth it. Your time's too valuable to risk downtime from a chainsaw accident.
I've done lots of chainsaw work in the past, and dragged big branches to the curb (we're allowed 6 ft lengths here, with some weight limit, and it doesn't have to be tied if it's stacked tidily). There's some threshold where I call the professionals though, and your job sounds big enough. My threshold may be a bit lower than yours because I'm older, and that makes my time even more valuable. You need to think about that too.

Friends dropping off a trailer next friday. This way i can load up the trailer saturday morning and drop it off at county facility for them to chip up before they close saturday afternoon. They said it should be $20 or so seeing that its all organic. I'll probably do some of the work tomorrow so saturday is just loading up the trailer. The facility is 7 miles down the road so i'll give my friend a handle of Jack for his trouble.

It's all about perception. Advertise it on craigslist for $300 and mention it's by the road. Someone will be along shortly to steal it.

Your city doesn't pick this stuff up? Ours does every Thursday. No matter what it is. You can pile anything you want up at the curb and the city will pick it up. Couches, refrigerators, limbs, concrete -anything. A truck with a crane comes by and picks it up and hauls it off. It's included in our utility bill.

There might actually be a limit to what the city will pick up.
