What do you think of these specs?

need to be abel to run capture nx2 (i guess photoshop performance would be similar) and still function as work computer for my work, which is basically web browsing, word processing and spreadsheets.

That should get the job done.

Seems kind of pricey to me though.

Are you married to getting a system from CompUSA?

not married at all.

I red in a photo magazine recently that one of the key issues was multiple processors (think they said going from 2 to 4 was awesome, and 4 to 8 not so much) and ram.

I cant read these specs so not sure if that meets their recommendation or not.

personally am looking for a large screen as well.

Can buy wherever i want:cheers: :waiting:

You married to touch-screen? The i3 processor is a touch slow. I'd shoot for an i5 or i7, whatever the budget can stand.

However, after browsing all of the "all-in-one" computers, that price isn't all that bad.

If you can avoid the "all-in-one", this one, with similar specs, including 23" monitor, is similar in price and has the i5.

CompUSA.com | I620-7531BK | Dell Inspiron 620 Core i5, 6GB, 23 LED Desktop (http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1753292&CatId=4275)

You might try matching the specs directly at Dell and seeing what you can come up with. If you go with Dell, you can also find coupons for them at Dell® Coupon Codes: (20% off laptops and desktops) (http://www.couponmountain.com/Dell_Computers-coupons-deals.html)

A fair amount of processing power for the $, but not sure on the touch screen for photo editing.
I did freelance studio work for 10 years and greatly favored a Wacom pad/stylus combo and a trackball for fine editing details/masking.

Even if you're just doing color/gamma/level adjustments, I wouldn't think a touch screen would be the way to go.

You may do better going to a local company who can custom build one for you. As long as your mobo is SATA III, you can install an SSD.
They've come down a ton in price as of recent.

I picked up a 120 GB OCZ that does 550 MB/s Read 550 MB/s Write
for $170 with $30 mail in rebate.
Excellent performance for the $.

The new Vertex 3 SSD drives are to die for, and definitely speed up the system. I was trying to stay close to the $700 price point of the OP.

For about $4,500, I can build a system from scratch that will blow your mind. I love my computer and am already looking at upgrading it, especially with swapping out my two SSD's for Vertex 3 SSD's. :yesnod:

Would be nice to build a toy with awesome internals. I'll be needing another computer soon and will be looking for something in the $1500 range that I could have fun with.

I'll have to give you a shout soon for recommendations.
I'll be using it for:
80% office mule
15% video editing
5% gaming (although I don't need an insane vid card)

I built myself a new desktop last year using this motherboard/processor combo:
OutletPC.com - $229.98 - AMD A8-3850 and Biostar TA75M Budget Motherboard and CPU Combo (http://www.outletpc.com/a1008b0-a8-3850-motherboard-and-processor-kit.html)

I use it for vector graphics, and web browsing. The vector graphics files that would lock up my old computer run like a champ on this. I have been very happy with it.

I have 16GB of memory installed.
I am running Linux on it though, so I can't tell you how it works with Windows installed.

Nice! But, you could about run Linux on an old 486 and "get by"
I ran Ubuntu for a year or so a few years back and liked it alot.

Here you go if you wanted the touch screen:
Newegg.com - Refurbished: ASUS Eee Top ET2400XVT-B011E 23.6" All-in-One PC Intel Core i7 740QM(1.73GHz) 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220088)

If not:
Newegg.com - DELL XPS 8300 (X8300-6007BK) Desktop PC Intel Core i7 2600(3.40GHz) 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883155326)

i7 with 8gb ram and a SSD should be your minimum requirements :yesnod:

I've got an i5 with 8gb ram at times I wish I had a little more power, especially when doing photoshop.

Good selections. I've used Newegg for a long time, so trusted source. More budget than the OP, but certainly a better computer. :yesnod:

I'm using a dual core i-5 with 8gb of ram. It's Asus machine. I've managed to choke it up a bit, when multitasking with some photo editing plus messing with itunes. My work machine an i-7 with 4gb of ram, has been more than I need for my spreadsheets & wordprocessing here at work.

WTF do you think I was doing before I built this new machine?

Ubuntu is what I am running on it. It does pretty much anything Windows does, it is as secure and safe from viruses as a Mac, there are tons of applications, and it doesn't cost anything! I like it a lot. :D

I liked the platform as well. My only issue was Open Office conversions.
I had no trouble with cross platform MS docs, but some of my clients could not open them in MS Office.
Some had no trouble but a few others just couldn't make them work. Particularly Excel docs with or without macros.

i7? Maybe. i5 should be sufficient, but if the cost is minimal, go for the i7

8GB RAM? I would tend to agree.

SSD HD? I disagree.

Ok fine 7200rpm.

But I currently have a 7200rpm HD, and really with my OS was on an SSD.

I found your problem. :D

The big difference between this and the one I posted earlier is the video card.
If you're not going to be watching too many videos, or playing graphic intense video games, this should work well for you. :yesnod:
