Maserati GranTurismo S
http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww22/lspencer534/GranTurismo_69.jpg

450 hp, 183 mph top speed. Some middle-aged woman was driving it. She actually pulled alongside to give my Jag the once-over, which I took as a compliment. I didn't give her a thumbs up because I was worried that she might think I was talking about my car. I just waved and smiled at her.

That is one sweet ride!

You're right about a pic not doing it justice. It was much more impressive in person, very muscular stance, beautiful lines.

my wife worked for Maserati and had access to a company car on occassion...back in the 80's...Bi-Turbo Spyder with DeTomaso design and that Italian interior... :seasix:

there is something about a Maserati...can't explain, but they have a unique feel to them.

I could never see me in one, or shellin' out the coins necessary...but the new ones do seem sweet. Owned by Ferrari now?

But the noise of a Ferrari V8 is a religious experience, regardless of the body surrounding it. Well worth the price of admission, IMO.

Maserati uses Ferrari engines and transmissions. Not sure who owns who, but isn't fiat group the big owner? Alfa romeo is in that group too.

Under the control of Ferrari at least, I'm pretty sure if you wanted to buy the company you'd be talking to FIAT.

Because the US Government was running a zero percent financing program and Chrysler has a distribution/dealer network that Fiat could kill for.

We've had a Maserati since they came back to the US in 2002. I had a severe Utah-like itch to support their re-entry -- what a great marque! Ours is a Spyder Cambiocorsa (paddle-shift manual).

I see one of those every so often. Pics don't do it justice. Badass ride but is a maintenance nightmare

Nah, that's their old reputation left over from the 80's crap they produced. The newer models have few problems. Ours has never been back to the shop for a maintenance problem in 20K miles. They did do a great job of supporting their customers -- at about 10,000 miles they replaced the clutch in ours for free because other users had complained about problems.

But the noise of a Ferrari V8 is a religious experience, regardless of the body surrounding it. Well worth the price of admission, IMO.

Absolutely. The engine was a joint development with Ferrari. I put a Tubi exhaust on ours - simply drop-dead gorgeous sound! :cert:

As stated above, the engine is a joint development with Ferrari. The paddle-shift manual transmissions for Ferrari and Maserai come from Magneti Marelli. Lamborghini also uses a MM transmission in their E-gear cars.

The cars are also assembled by Ferrari.

I had forgotten about the new factory. Was a time not very long ago the Masers came down the same line as the F430, the 599 and the 612.

At about 23:00 you can see the coupe version of your car during the paint process and then again a few more times among the Ferraris...

:iagree:

Maserati opened the Modena plant sometime around 2003. At the time (and probably now) it was one of the most modern assembly facilities in the world. Every chassis is hooked up to a moving rotisserie that spins and turns the car as it moves through the plant. Perfect for a some-hand-assembly process used by Maserati. A tour is on my Bucket List.

They also have a body panel plant in Turin that forms the aluminum fender and door skins.

I'm not certain, but I think they still paint the cars in the Ferrari facility, then bring them over to the Maserai plant for assembly. That was true when my car was built, and I think they kept the same process after opening the Modena assembly facility.
