Five Killer Whales Sue Seaworld For 'Slavery'

FIVE KILLER WHALES have been named as plaintiffs in a lawsuit against SeaWorld which argues that they deserve protection from slavery.

The case is being taken by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the controversial animal rights activist group.

PETA argue that the US constitutional right to freedom from slavery should also apply to animals.

SeaWorld’s legal team have said that the case is a waste of time and resources, according to the BBC, which quotes the marine park’s lawyer, Theodore Shaw, who told a court in San Diego: “Neither orcas nor any other animal were included in the ‘We the people’… when the Constitution was adopted.”

The animal rights group yesterday said that it was seeking the release of five orcas to a “more appropriate environment”, such as a coastal sanctuary, adding:

The plaintiffs in the case, Tilikum, Katina, Kasatka, Ulises, and Corky, were captured and taken from their ocean homes and families and are confined to the equivalent of concrete bathtubs, where they are forced to earn money for SeaWorld by performing for customers’ entertainment.
PETA say that it is the first time that a US court has had to consider whether constitutional rights apply to animals.

Good God, they're stupid.

Well, if thats the case, the family of the handler that was killed by a killer whale a few years ago in San Diego oughtta be able to sue the whale.

Sounds perfectly fine to me. The poor killer whales need protection.

First thing that should happen is to invite the PETA lawyers over to Sea World and toss them in the pool so they can consult with their clients.

Oh no, I could be in trouble. My dog is pretty much a slave too. He doesn't eat or go out unless I say so. Does that make me a slavemaster in PETA's eyes?

To a point, yes:

Animal Rights Uncompromised: 'Pets' | PETA.org (http://www.peta.org/about/why-peta/pets.aspx)
This selfish desire to possess animals and receive love from them causes immeasurable suffering, which results from manipulating their breeding, selling or giving them away casually, and depriving them of the opportunity to engage in their natural behavior. They are restricted to human homes, where they must obey commands and can only eat, drink, and even urinate when humans allow them to.

But they claim their focus is more on the commercial selling than the actual pet ownership...

Does it count to them that I only get my animals from rescue shelters?
