short version- used city 'camps' for daughter during breaks in school session. Since this is child care I paid for, I'd like to deduct it, but entering childcare on fed tax forms requires a SS# or EIN #, anyone here familiar with this?

a legitimate child care provider will have a Tax ID number to report when filing your taxes...the child care provider should have no problem providing that number to you...

The camps were/are run by the city, I paid the city.
I guess I'll call them on Monday

I had a similar situation...years ago...before and after care at the school, cared for my kids "before and after" school...the care was provided by the YMCA...when filing my taxes, I needed that TIN. I just called and asked for their TIN and they gave it to me...there are some childcare providers that work "off the books" so I guess your situation depends on the care givers and if they report what is paid to them....

Yeah - call them and ask to see if they can give you a printout of what you paid last year with the tax #. During this time of year, they are quite used to getting statements like that ready. :seasix:

Just get the EIN # of the daycare center. That is basically the social security # of a corporation, or LCC. You'll need to enter that, as that is the identifier of the business that you dealt with.
If an individual watched your kid, then you'll need to get the SS# of the individual ....
This is assuming that it was all above board.

My school has an afterschool program and a summer day camp program. Just call and ask for their EIN#. The teachers that run our programs prepare a printout for the parents in addition to the receipts the parents are given upon each payment.
