When did High school athletes become stars? Amazing watching some of these "announcements" , these kids have the whole school there, their family and are being treated as superstars and making a spectacle about where they are going to "Continue their education"

ESPN is the suck tho when it comes to recruiting tho, its irony at it's best! Rivals and 24/7 are the best at recruiting evaluation.

Dorial Green-Beckham picks Mizzou over Arkansas? WTF? Enjoy catching passes at Mizzou. You could have come to Arkansas and set NCAA records and been the number one NFL pick when you left and had a shot at a BCS title. Good luck with that at Mizzou.

Actually,
Graduation Success Rate reaches record high
FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas student-athletes who entered school in a four-year period from 2001-04 had a graduation success rate of 73 percent, the highest rate in school history, according to the most recent numbers released by the NCAA. The graduation success rates for all NCAA institutions were released on Tuesday as well as the six-year Federal Graduation rate for each institution.
The graduation success rate was developed as an improved measurement tool for tracking student-athletes’ academic progress leading toward graduation. The graduation success rate is a four-year snapshot of a program’s academic progress. The University of Arkansas has improved its graduation success rate each year since the measurement was implemented seven years ago rising from an initial rate of 60 percent to 73 percent in the numbers released on Tuesday.
“I am pleased that for the sixth-consecutive year our program has improved upon our graduation success rate,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “While the GSR does not provide a real time measurement, our record rate combined with a growing number of student-athletes earning their college degrees show we are making significant progress. Our broadly focused academic approach, targeted on graduation rather than maintaining athletic eligibility, has resulted in more student-athletes maintaining their academic track toward earning their diplomas. Although we have seen dramatic improvement in the past few years, we must continue to work to improve the graduation rate for our student-athletes.”
The most recent federal graduation rate for the University of Arkansas, 52 percent, is based on scholarship student-athletes that enrolled full time in 2004. The percentage marks the third time in seven reports, including the second-consecutive year, the federal graduation rate has exceeded 50 percent. The overall student rate at the University of Arkansas was 58 percent in the latest reporting period. Federal graduation rates do not account for transfers or other student-athletes that leave institutions in good academic standing.
“Our goal is to meet and exceed the graduation rate of the general student population at the University of Arkansas,” Long said. “We have closed that gap in the past two years, but still have progress to make to match our overall student rate and meet our goal of helping to lead our institution academically.”
In 2010-11, a total of 77 current or former Razorback student-athletes earned their college degrees from the University of Arkansas.
In addition to graduation success rate and federal six-year graduation rates, the NCAA established the Academic Progress Rate (APR) that provides institutions with a more real-time indicator of academic success. Last spring, Arkansas exceeded the APR benchmark of 925 by more than 10 points in 18 of 19 sports.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri has a graduation success rate (GSR) of 81% as announced by the NCAA on Oct. 25. The graduation rate reflects the percentage of student-athletes who graduated from the University within a six-year period. The current GSR report reflects graduation information about students entering in 2004.
Missouri leads the Big 12 in GSR, and several sports teams graduated 100% of their student-athletes. Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, Women’s Swimming and Tennis all recorded a perfect GSR for student-athletes who entered in 2004. Men’s Swimming and Men’s Track had an 81% GSR, which is the highest in the conference for the respective programs. In total, six teams led their respective sport in GSR, which is the most in the conference, tied with Kansas and Iowa State.
Missouri has seen an increase in GSR for the past five years, and this is the second year in a row in which the Tigers have had four teams with a perfect GSR.

I'd like to know what kind of snake oil Petrino sold Otha Peters to flip him from the Vols in the 11th hour!! :kick:
He told a UT writer the day before he switched, "he can't wait to wear #25 for the Vols next year, UT fans have nothing to worry about..."

Who would you rather play for? Seriously. Arkansas has a shot at a national title this year. The Vols don't. We needed a linebacker and he has great shot at playing immediately. I don't know how the Vols are stacked at LB though.

Arkansas will NEVER have a shot at a NC game with Bama and LSU in the same conference!!
UT is actually good at LB, which makes it not hurt so bad, but we are switching to a 3-4, so Otha would have a chance at early impact.

True, you guys took us to the wood shed this year, no doubt about it!! What's the overall series record tho? I think Arkansas has won the West 3 times, wow. TN has twice that many conference and National championships, not to mention has won the east numerous times!
And that shutout was during your peak time, and probably the worst UT team to ever field a team this year missing out starting qb (had a true frosh starting his first road game against you), missing our top reciever, starting rb, and about 4 starters on D. Just sayin...

A friend of mine that coaches a high school team in Virginia Beach (responsible for about 15 current D1 college players last I checked) does everything he can to stop the kids from crap like this... but some of the stories he has about coaches and recruiting are absolutely unbelievable.
Of note for the Tennessee fans is that one of his kids was Justin Hunter, who was leading the SEC in receiving yards as a sophomore this year until he tore his ACL. He also set the UT record for TDs by a freshman (or something like that).

Tell your friend that this Vol fan thanks him for Justin Hunter!! Dude is an absolute beast. He actually practiced this week at near full speed, and should be good to go by Spring ball. I'd say if he has a good year, he will bolt for the NFL and be a 1st rounder. I really hope he, DaRick Rogers (who led the SEC in receptions and yards this year as a soph) and Tyer Bray all stay for thier senior year!

I watched all but about 3 of the games he played in high school. You think he is a beast in college, you should see what happened against high school defenders! It was actually funny to watch.
It also helps that the QB throwing to him was LaFonte Thourogood, a red shirt freshman at Vandy. He was really heavily recruited and got offers from Oregon, WVU, Virginia Tech, Stanford, and Florida. Believe it or not, the education was actually his deciding factor. It came down to Stanford and Vandy... and he decided to stay closer to home instead of going all the way out West.
I've talked to Justin quite a few times and he is actually a relly good kid... well spoken, well behaved, polite, and always good in school from what my friend said.
EDIT:
A few pics I remembered I had in my PB account that I took at one of his games. It doesn't take a football genius to spot that talent ...

The funny part of that is he was recruited by EVERY school you can think of including LSU, Bama, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc... nobody really seems to know why he went with Tennessee and at the time Lane Kiffin. Everybody, including the coaches, thought he was going to either LSU, Ohio State, or Florida up until his out of the blue UT announcement.

We will see! Arkansas is a 12/1 in Vegas to win it all. Here are some other odds:
LSU 3/1
USC 6/1
ALABAMA 7/1
OREGON 9/1
ARKANSAS 12/1
GEORGIA 15/1
FLORIDA ST 18/1
Also, here is what Bleacher Report has to say:
2013 National Championship: Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Oregon Ducks
Next year's National Championship Game will be contested between two teams who will run the table and win their respective conference championships. The Arkansas Razorbacks and Oregon Ducks will both contend for their first BCS National Championship
Oregon will win their fourth-consecutive conference championship, beating a top five USC team in the title game after going 11-0 during the season. The Ducks will field two Heisman contenders in senior leaders Darron Thomas and LaMichael James.
On the other side, Arkansas will win a depleted SEC West division behind Knile Davis, who returns to All-SEC form after missing the 2010 regular season with an ankle injury. Tyler Wilson returns for his senior year and the Razorbacks beat LSU, Alabama and South Carolina in an undefeated season.
I see Oregon finally getting glory, winning an epic National Championship Game, 35-34 in triple overtime.
What's the overall series record tho? I think Arkansas has won the West 3 times, wow. TN has twice that many conference and National championships, not to mention has won the east numerous times!
And the Vols should have twice that many! Actually, they should have more than that. The Vols have been in the conference since 1932 and the Hogs joined in 1992. You had a 60 year head start.
