View Full Version : i need computer networking help that's smarter than me
I have a network with all hardwired computers and a printer installed. i have a new guy that i gave a laptop to that is connected wirelessly to get on internet etc. i want to get him in our network (wirelessly, i'm out of ports on the router thingie from att, and that router thingie is also the T1 modem and wireless connection point) to get access to our server and ability to print to our network printer.
I went through the network set up deal on the laptop and named it workgroup which is what its called on my computer, and it still cant see other computers or the printer.
what am i screwing up?:waiting:

Have you dialed into the router to check if wireless is enabled?

no, but since he is connected to the internet through the wireless connection i would assume so?

Make sure your VPN is disconnected and your DNS is communicating with your LDAP correctly...

We actually had a network engineer tell us this a few years ago. All of us were :skep:. He was asked to never show up at network meetings again.
I've never forgotten that statement because none of them talk to each other.

I was thinking that I know I'm not the smartest network guy in the world, but that doesn't make sense.

Do you have the option on the computer to turn on Network discovery? I had to do that to my windows machine so it could be seen in my Home Group.

I'll have to check after I finish the deep scan of my windows machine. I don't ahve the warm and fuzzy about using it right now since I did go to CF's PR&C section a few days ago when they were having issues.

go to the [hidden icons] menu on the menu bar (the little triangle), go to the network icon (the 5 bars), click on it and see if the LT can see the network.
Start there and the update us.

And you also have to set up the printer to be able to print wirelessly.

Make sure printer sharing is turned on on the PC connected to the printer.

His laptop and the machines on your network should be on the same IP
Subnet (and in the same workgroup) to communicate with each other.
Can you run ipconfig on the 2 machines and post the results?

I remember it and that most likely wasn't her dildo. She's already got on and she's married to him. Had I done something like that, Chapsaltuck would have cut off my pecker and put it on the bed. I'm surprised she lets him post whore like that. I do recall one time she was complaining about his posting habits though.
Oh, here's the only pic of Wifey that I like:

Are you running static IP's (entered manually in manually) for the machine, the Gateway, and plugging in the subnet mask manually or are you running DHCP where it's done automatically? If DHCP, you most likely don't have the problem with being on different subnets. Well, it's a possibility, but I have wired and wireless machines running here (gone through several routers over the years) and have never had that issue.
