Let's see how keen you guys are just from the post. :D
If you are car shopping and you see, lets say 20 cars that are the right make and model, with prices ranging from 4000 to 10000 dollars. The cheapest of the bunch having rebuilt titles, substantial damage and in need of repair, and the highest of the bunch being like...25,000 mile cars, never driven in the rain, pristine examples of the car.
And in the middle you have the 5500 to 8000 dollar cars, miles ranging from say...60,000 to 185,000.
If the high mileage car has clearly been meticulously maintained both inside and out, and under the hood, and the car looks, and drives like it should...does the high mileage weigh heavily on A. if you would consider it at all, and B. How much you would expect the price to be in relation to BOOK VALUE at that mileage?
Personally, I look at the vehicle, I dont consider mileage to be an accurate measure of a vehicles lifespan. Ive seen cars with 50,000 miles on them, faded paint, ripped interiors, oil and fluid leaks, filthy engine bays...going for 1K over book, selling simply based on low miles.
My Jeep, when I got it, had like 220K on it...It had been neglected as far as cleanliness, but mechanically and interior wise I saw a real Gem. Its got almost 230K on it now and I drive it daily...I just had to put my first repair on it...had a caliper stick on it, 19.99 for a new one..WOW.
My Mustang has 184K miles on it, paint is clear, smooth...couple small blemishes if you get right up on it and look for them. Interior is mint except for some thinning on the drivers seat bottom. Engine is solid, no leaks, no smoke, no odd noises. Posi works great, completely loaded with all options and they all work. Ice cold A/C, everything. 4 new Bullit wheels, 4 new Toyo Proxxes4 Tires, all new shocks, springs, CC plates, Bassani and Flowmaster exhaust, and a new water pump, belt, tensioner, pullies, battery...whatever it needed, it got.
Book is like 6000....Im getting offers in the 2000-4000 range, which is 125K mile V6 territory.
I know its green...I know its an automatic, ya ya ya....but its a FAST, running, driving car.
In all honesty, if the odometer said 85,000 miles...no one would suspect a thing.
