In Sooke British Columbia. When I watched it I couldn't help but think that those whales were thinking the kayaks looked like big seals.....:sneaks:

That video is 7 min too long. But I'm not sure I'd want to be out there with those.

Was fishing just north of Campbell River in a 16 ft boat when a pod
came down the channel, dove about 50 feet in front and came up about 100 feet behind.
The fish finder showed the biggest echo returns I've ever seen as they went
directly underneath.
Cool but kinda unsettling in a small boat.

WTF?

Is that a staple or a lure on his eyelid?

Had some Orca’s come up alongside us while pulling in lobster traps near Beals Island and Jonesport, Maine back in the ‘70’s.

They just hung around for awhile then left. At the time, my Uncle Jimmy thought they were just being a pest and was banging on the boat to get them to leave. But my Dad told him to stop so I couold get a good look at them.

They are very curious creatures. One young Orca was bumping our boat until one of the parents came between the boat and the young Orca. You could almost touch them.

Uncle Jimmy said its rare for them to come this far north but no unheard of.

We are not affraid of it. The vast majority just don't know how to swim. Not hard to believe as the overwhelming majority come from urban areas where they don't have access to lakes/pools on a regular basis. Its also not a priority to learn to swim when you grow up in a city. White people in rural areas have lakes, middle Cass whites go on vacation where there is water, etc.. Besides we are already black.. Why would we purposefully want to spend time out in the sun at a beach and get blacker? So more cabs can pass us by???

That being said my family is from the islands and i learned to swim when I was a kid. My kids who are 2 and 5 have swimming leasons every weekend. A three year old in their Daycare drowned last year.

I disagree with you analysis on the difference. The reason a lot of black folks don't swim is because their parents don't swim, and their parents didn't swim, going back generations, probably to slave days. It's just not a priority for them. Whites are just the opposite, we are taught early how to swim in local pools or swimming holes that are available to everyone.
You can't play the "no opportunity, poor poor us" card for this.

Not buying that. Personally, I think WP is prolly right. You really have to look at where a kid was raised to see if they had the opportunity to learn to swim.

Every city has public pools, and community center pools, and if any kid wants to learn to swim they can. But if the parents can't swim, why would they want their kids to swim......it would be terrifying for them.:yesnod:

Economics work there too. If the parents don't know and can't afford someone to teach them....

Of course I could use my Granddad's way-throw you out of the boat and tell you swim or die.

I just got an email from a friend in Victoria, and his son teaches kayaking in that very bay, Sookes. He says the whales come and play with the little boats all the time and there's never been any problem.:seasix:
