View Full Version : Any Electricians Out There ? Under Kitchen Cabinet Light Question.

My kitchen, under the cabinet halogen lights, have started to flicker, on occasion. Not all the time, but just once in a while, and when it starts, it continues to the point that I just turn them off.....Here's a pic of the stuff on top of the cabinet that all of the wires are connected to. Can this stuff fail, and cause this ?
The bottom plug in the outlet is for the upper cabinet lights, and is wired to a wall switch . That works fine.
The top plug in the outlet is a dedicated power source for the lower lights that I'm having the problem with. I turn them off and on by a touch pad, under one of the cabinets.
The littlest wire leads to that touch pad switch.
The wall switch does not control the top plug in the outlet at all, (under cabinet lights).

Any ideas ?

I would start with the switch.I have had them go bad on me to where they worked fine as long as you push them all the way up, but if it is not 100% up, but appears to be, it will flicker.

You mean the touch pad switch ? What you said does happen. There's 3 choices. Dim, brighter, and brightest.....Sometimes when I press it to the brightest setting, ( three taps), it does not appear to be the brightest, but eventually does brighten to the desired , brightest option. So change out the switch ?

I have never found a halogen light that was worth having. They fail frequently and do not last for their advertised life.

I would. Even non-touch pad switches go bad. Hell, it is a $4 swap and takes 3 min to swap. If that is not it, take the switch back and try the outlet. (I have replaced all kinds of crap here in order to find an issue and 9/10 times it was the switch)

The lights work fine. There's a ghost in the machine though. I like the halogen spots, beaming down on the marble counter top.

 I'm all over it....I found another touch pad, so I'm gonna splice it on and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice. Yesterday, I just spliced a new touch pad in, that I had laying around, put it back, and she's solid.....:cert:....:seasix: I think I'll have a cigar.....:D
