WW2 seems to get all of the attention when it comes to movies. Seeing the preview for "War Horse" made me think that we really haven't had a good movie dedicated to the first world war since computer graphics have gotten so good as to make a realistic movie much easier to pull off.

Flyboys with James Franco depicted American ex-pat pilots flying for the French in War One.
Unfortunately, it has some of the worst acting, CG and plotlines that could ever be inflicted on film.

People don't remember The Great War, or why it was fought, and the Vets are almost gone, their stories with them.
WWII is fresh and the Holocaust still stings and the Vets are still around.
WWI has been reduced to a novelty on the History channel.
"Look at the crazy tanks they used!"
"Hehehe, they've got chopper helmets on with spikes on the top and everything!"
"They just sat in trenches and didn't go anywhere for 3 friggin years!"
It is a forgotten war.

I agree, some more WWI education is needed.

This is why I won't be peepin' this one. Why can't a good movie about a horse or a dog have a HAPPY ENDING! And I don't mean one that seems like it's going to be sad then turns out happy.

Still haven't seen that one, I'm pretty gun shy about animal movies. Next time I see it I'll pick it up. I'm trusting you Bucky...

We watched it on NetFlix.
I was :skep: at first but man it was a good movie. You might cry at the end but they won't be sad tears.
Definitely worth the watch. :yesnod:

I totally understand where you're at on this.
Happy endings just were not in the offering for nearly all of the 10 million horses of WWI. Sadly, their stories are virtually unknown, save for a few books and this movie.

That is dope, right there. AMC plays that mofo every Veteran's Day as part of its "Best Vets" movie series.
Worst WWI movie I've peeped to date goes to "The Razor's Edge" starring Bill Murray. Two words; DON'T BOTHER!
