"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire".......blah,blah. What do you do with them, and what's so special about them? I bought some today, raw, I guess, and they're sorta tasteless. Ideas???:D

You got the lyrics all wrong; it's

"Jack Frost roasting on an open fire,
Chestnuts nipping at your nose"

I remember when I was a kid my dad would cut an x on one side of them and put them in the fireplace. They taste much sweeter when warm.
They almost caramalize chef Robbie.

Strange little things. I got them today fresh, and they are on my desk under a desk lamp. In the last hour, they've popped, split open, and made strange sounds. :willy:

They have creatures in them. I never cared for the taste either,we were camping in the N.C. mountains last October and there was a tree near by that was loaded, don't touch them when they are enclosed in the little green jackets. We roasted some and I am not a fan.

Just wait 'til something hops out of one and runs across you desk.
Try not to scream like a little girl.

My parents used to roast them during Christmas season all the time--I never acquired the taste.

They look sort of like a large Hazel nut to me.
